how different would doom3 be if john romero was still working at id?

Recommended Posts

Hard to say, Romero seemed to be open towards all kind of ideas. Daikatana has a bit of everything, but is a classic 1990s FPS at it's heart.

Maybe he would have integrated a simple RPG element in Doom 3 - that could work well if done right. He probably would have increased the player's walking speed to make it more action-orientated. And he would have implemented some quirky ideas, like a an ancient Martian ghost acting as your elderly martial arts master.

Agreed, I'm still halfway through a playthrough of it with the fan patch and it really doesn't seem to be as horrific as its reputation dictates.

Perhaps he would have introduced a bit more open world, survival and rpg elements.

He was open to a.i. with Daikatana so there could have been rescue missions, resources and free roaming to prepare for the next difficult level.

It would probably be a bit more fast paced, but considering his work after he left id Software I'm not entirely convinced it would somehow turn into gold.

Have you even played Daikatana? It's not half as bad as people claim.

Oh, it's BAAAAAAAD. Believe me.
