I have seen that Dean Koontz excerpt as a "meme" at first and thought: "Dafuq. Can't be." So I checked for the actual book and downloaded it and indeed this passage is in the book. Which is quite... strange actually. Quite a coincidence, hehe.

5G network

5G network has been pretty controversial too tbh. Some say it's harmless or no more harmful than 4G, while others say it's literally cancer.

It seems to stir mixed (and strong) reactions.

I've seen and experienced enough of strange and utterly weird, unexplainable things in my life that I don't believe in coincidence. I would much rather call it unexplainable. If the quantum physics laws permit all kinds of weirdness that defy regular three-dimensional logic it could very well be that Koontz received a leak from a parallel reality overlapping him from the future :D

I've got 10,000 rounds of toilet paper in the spare room. The Corona virus ain't shit.

Also, dressing up like a mummy is supposed to protect from the Corona virus, right?

Finally, quite ironically, the covid19 has so far saved more lives than it has claimed. In China, casualties from traffic accidents have dropped by over 16000 compared to last year, simply because people don't drive anymore because of the quarantine. Pollution was also reduced dramatically. Of course this isn't sustainable long-term, the economy will have to restart, but it's kind of eye-opening.

I don't want to be rude here, but why is this post the most upvoted here?

No, it's not eye opening, the people die less in car accidents, when they are in a quarantine. The same with pollution.

It's like saying it's eye opening you suddenly has less financial issues in your life when you shot yourself with a shotgun... of course you don't, because you're dead.

No, seriously, again, why is this upvoted so heavily?

Its not something THAT bad as news telling. Because there are nothing "global" happens in the world, except it.

Basically it says that around 2020, there would be a pneumonia-like disease infecting everyone and then disappearing suddenly, and the same disease making a comeback 10 years later.

If all of that is, indeed, true, then well, we will have SARS-CoV-3 around 2030.

Omg. we all gonna die.
Damn, I planning to live, like, forever. Guess I would die then too, to not stand out.

Corona concerns just caused a dance event i was going to see and meet up with my dance crew to get annulled.

You can imagine how that sets in.

Especially considering the last previous time i attended a music event (A folk one) got ruined too because the airport ran into a nationwide fuel issue causing intense delays.

Sometimes its very easy to understand DoomGuy.

Yeah, what an incredible pity that your little dance event got cancelled, to help stop or prevent spread of a virus in your community. A person's personal freedom and especially little hobbies should always be above everything else, especially above the health of other people and the community they live in in general.

And no one has provided a shred of verifiable evidence. While there have indeed been the odd case of known dangerous products (eg: cigarettes) conspiritards are basically saying this will kill everybody. A network update like this is a major expense. They need lots of people paying them money over time to make it worth the bother. So providing a service which is going to kill everyone strikes me as a rather unsound business plan. Corpses are notoriously lax when it comes to paying their bills.

Just found out today that someone from my county that tested presumptive positive died today. He was in his 60's, and the article said he had other health issues, and it was contracted "due to travel". Nice way to be extremely vague. They don't know yet if it was the virus or the health issues, but I'm sure the virus didn't help.

But my county is not a large county, maybe 120,000, and it's in the west. Not west coast, not midwest, middle of the damn country so I hoped it would stay away for a bit. And the same day, they announced 5 other people on the eastern side of the state tested presumptive positive. So, it's here. I'm sure it's been here. I'm sure I've been exposed to it, I deal with quite a few people every day at work. So... what? Nothing I can do to not be exposed except stay inside, and not work, which means I won't be able to stay inside anymore.

I'm not really concerned about myself, but I am concerned about my older relatives. Especially my grandmother, if she gets it, she's done for. Which would really suck, it'd be my last grandparent gone, and she likes getting around, and she's still sharp as a tack.

So yeah, it is concerning. If people would just be more cautious when there's a weird new strain of airborne virus that we don't understand, don't fucking travel. But of course no one ever expects that they'll catch it, because they're just so awesome. I'm sure I'll get it.

At this point all we can do is wait and see. And not do stupid shit.

Fuck... I just realized there's probably going to be a "Corona Challenge" where people drink Corona and spit in each others mouths to try and transmit the virus.

I mean, coronavirus is already leading to mass-scale event cancellation here, just because only 3 was diagnosed positive LOL.

We've somehow managed to have more confirmed cases than the last time, when it was 2-3, now it's 20 if not actually 30, wow.

But it's only going to get worse here despite schools and companies closing down for a while, since we're talking about us... all specialists recommend avoiding crowded areas but for some reason the malls are full wtf, as if people are on vacation, not in quarantine...

I am so sorry that ive let personal frustration made a post for once. Surely that never has happened to you because you wouldn't post it then.

Does that mean i disagree with the decreet that was issued by the district? Ofcourse not. It happens. But i didn't mention that, so ofcourse you thought the worst of it.

But thanks for the empathy! Its understandable considering i am just a name with no face, but hey.

Hmm, I'm sorry. I just thought you are one of those non believers, who basically ignore all suggestions like social distancing and cancellation of events.

I do understand your frustration. I was planning my move back to my home country and this virus majorly fucked this up for me as well. It is frustrating.

Again, sorry, didn't want to sound too harsh before.

Ok. Seen this particular question...what do you think of the coronavirus?

First. Seen this thing called fear-mongering and that shit pisses me off. Like, I get that it's a new disease but cmon...people are so stupid by spreading unnecessary fear. We all know that people with extremely low immune system (old and young people) are the ones unfortunate to have more chances to die but, the rest of people should be ok with that disease.

Here in Chile, people that have the disease are kept in their homes under vigilance 24/7 instead of being in a special room on hospitals/clinics because they believe that the virus can spread faster in those places rather than being at home.

Basically, this is the same as what happened with the bird flu years ago. Give it time to be contained. Spreading fear and false info is so fucking stupid.....

I have had the flu for the past 2 weeks myself, a heavy one at that. I have been doing nothing but social distancing, lol.

Ironically i got sick right after drinking Corona Extra.

Exactly. These things have been planned way in advance. The fact that (personally) this is the second event in a row i have to miss because of a nationwide mishap just threw me off. Im normally not like that, its just... having a lot of bad luck at one end, eventually you have to vent, even if its just a little.

We are at over 500. Funny enough a large part (200+) is centered around one district.

5 reported deaths so far. Its still light days but i expect the entire country to go on lockdown eventually, only leaving critical elements open.

Seems the only sure fire way to knock back.

Denmark's being shut down. I can't go to work on Monday and we're going to keep our kids home from daycare from tomorrow morning. Until further notice we're going to stay home for the next 14 days. I hate this fucking Corona thing...

I can somewhat relate to this. I'm not particularly concerned for myself either. I've always had a pretty damn good immune system and have only been sick enough to keep me off my feet once in the last six or seven years. As for my older family, I'm not even especially concerned about them---my dad just turned 60, but is a healthy guy and goes hiking on a fairly regular basis. I'm not even very concerned about my grandpa, (who's in his mid 80's) since he lives by himself in a somewhat rural area and seldom gets visitors.

But I do worry about my sister. She's overweight, diabetic, and those issues bring with them a whole fuckload of ailments. She's also never had the best immune system, and just had a kid in the last year. Contracting something like this could easily be the nail in the coffin, despite her being in a much safer age range.

I'm not terribly concerned about it from a health perspective. I mean, I am concerned about my parents' health as my dad is diabetic and just went through a stint in the hospital, but I'm more concerned about the impact of it. I'm from the US, so I can only really speak to that, but with all the events being cancelled (E3, various St. Patrick's Day parades), NCAA March Madness being played without fans in attendance, it's very unsettling to me. The NBA just announced in the last half hour or so that the rest of the season has been suspended. My mom is concerned about my parents' 401K account because of the economic downturn this is producing. My brother was laid off from his new job because they aren't getting customers. Maybe I'm lucky, but I can't remember a time in my life that was quite like this.
