Favorite non Doom FPS

As amazing as Doom is the genre it kick started gave us some pretty badass fps games and i'm wondering what are some of the favorites of Doom World Members. 

 

It can be any 2.5D shooter from the era. 

 

I'll start, My favorite is probably Blood because of its atmosphere and game play, it kicks your ass but never really feels unfair.

This post made me realize I don't play a ton of shooters.

 

Singleplayer: Half-Life 2, honorable mention to Resident Evil 7 which is excellent until the last 2 hours where it gets kind of dull.

Quake, easily. To me, it does everything Doom does but better.

 

I love Blood but disagree with the statement that "it never feels unfair". In difficulties above Lightly Broiled it's completely up to luck whether a Cultist immediately blasts your face off or not. If it weren't for its hitscanners, Blood would be an easy 10/10 for me.

In no particular order:

-Any Build Engine games

-Wolfenstein 3D

-QUAKE

So far those are the only ones I remember enjoying a lot other than DOOM.

Such a shame the Q64 Ultra mod for PC is still lost and we can't have our hands on the mod itself.

I'll consider that games like Quake, Quake II, or Half-Life do not qualify as being "the 2.5D era" since they're 3D.

Quake 1, it's my favorite.  More than Doom, even.

 

Other ones I really really really like from that era are ROTT and Zero Tolerance.  And definitely Descent if you want to count that (I always have).

I think I've mentioned before I played a lot of Hexen and Hexen 2 with my dad so obviously those.

My dad and brother and I played @kristus's Curse of D'Sparil co-op which is a fond memory of mine.

idk if that counts either but that game was a direct inspiration for Forsaken on the N64 which I loved and want to play again 

Playing the Nightdive remake is on my list and i keep forgetting!
