The Icon of Sin Posted March 9, 2020 As amazing as Doom is the genre it kick started gave us some pretty badass fps games and i'm wondering what are some of the favorites of Doom World Members. It can be any 2.5D shooter from the era. I'll start, My favorite is probably Blood because of its atmosphere and game play, it kicks your ass but never really feels unfair. 3 Share this post Link to post
ShortedOutFuse Posted March 9, 2020 Powerslave (the PlayStation version) or Duke 3D 1 Share this post Link to post
LuciferSam86 Posted March 9, 2020 For me: - Blood - Duke 3D - Marathon - Quake 2 Share this post Link to post
Egg Boy Posted March 9, 2020 This post made me realize I don't play a ton of shooters. Singleplayer: Half-Life 2, honorable mention to Resident Evil 7 which is excellent until the last 2 hours where it gets kind of dull. Multiplayer: Rainbow Six: Siege 0 Share this post Link to post
Immorpher Posted March 9, 2020 Quake 64! Gotta have that colored lighting! :D 1 Share this post Link to post

kaleb. Posted March 9, 2020 for singleplayer: probably quake for multiplayer: team fortress 2 1 Share this post Link to post
Juza Posted March 9, 2020 Quake, easily. To me, it does everything Doom does but better. I love Blood but disagree with the statement that "it never feels unfair". In difficulties above Lightly Broiled it's completely up to luck whether a Cultist immediately blasts your face off or not. If it weren't for its hitscanners, Blood would be an easy 10/10 for me. 2 Share this post Link to post
taufan99 Posted March 9, 2020 In no particular order: -Any Build Engine games -Wolfenstein 3D -QUAKE So far those are the only ones I remember enjoying a lot other than DOOM. 2 hours ago, Immorpher said: Quake 64! Tetzlaff Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) Quake II oops, only 2.5D games? Heretic. Edited March 9, 2020 by Tetzlaff 0 Share this post Link to post
Deleted_Account Posted March 9, 2020 It can be any 2.5D shooter from the era? Duke Nukem 3D, Hexen, Blood, Power Slave. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted March 9, 2020 I'll consider that games like Quake, Quake II, or Half-Life do not qualify as being "the 2.5D era" since they're 3D. So Heretic and Dark Forces for me. 2 Share this post Link to post
NuMetalManiak Posted March 9, 2020 I'm definitely a retro fan so Wolf3D, the Build Engine games, and Descent 1 Share this post Link to post

Remilia Scarlet Posted March 9, 2020 Quake 1, it's my favorite. More than Doom, even. Other ones I really really really like from that era are ROTT and Zero Tolerance. And definitely Descent if you want to count that (I always have). 2 Share this post Link to post
D4NUK1 Posted March 9, 2020 Only 2.5? Duke3D then i guess. More modern take it's Ion Fury 1 Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted March 9, 2020 I think I've mentioned before I played a lot of Hexen and Hexen 2 with my dad so obviously those. My dad and brother and I played @kristus's Curse of D'Sparil co-op which is a fond memory of mine. 52 minutes ago, Remilia Scarlet said: And definitely Descent if you want to count that (I always have). idk if that counts either but that game was a direct inspiration for Forsaken on the N64 which I loved and want to play again Playing the Nightdive remake is on my list and i keep forgetting! 1 Share this post Link to post
P41R47 Posted March 9, 2020 (edited) 8-BIT KILLER! (strangely, this video is slowed down, choose reproduction speed x2 for the longplay to be nearest to what the original gameplay offers) Here is the download page (with several other extremelly good retro games made by the same guy): https://www.locomalito.com/es/ Enjoy!
