WowozuelaSpammer Posted April 4, 2020 I've been using ZDoom for a while now and i've wondered, what's the difference between ZDoom and GZDoom? That a salty member made GZDoom? That GZDoom is OpenGL? Sorry if this question is really dumb 0 Share this post Link to post

ZDoom was made by Randy Heit till 2016 when ZDoom 2.8.1 was released. After that, Graf Zahl, creator of GZDoom, took over, making GZDoom the defacto successor to ZDoom. 2 hours ago, TheStupidestBeing said: That a salty member made GZDoom? I know this is a pun on Graf's user title, but not everyone will get this joke. 2 hours ago, TheStupidestBeing said: That GZDoom is OpenGL? Sorry if this question is really dumb GZDoom originally was indeed a project to add OpenGL support to ZDoom, but has significantly outgrown that original purpose. See also the DoomWiki pages on ZDoom and GZDoom. 0 Share this post Link to post

In short: use ZDoom32 (updated september 2019, capable of loading mods) for all classic games preserving the looks they were designed to have. Only use gzdoom for the most recent modern mods post-2012 or so. (the crazy stuff) For a comparison between ZDoom and gzdoom, look at these screenshots: (more here) Spoiler Standard ZDoom, Hexen hub3 (cheatcode visit13) And now gzdoom: Standard ZDoom, Doom1 map E2M6 (there's a section with a maze in the darkness but walls are still visible when you get close) And now gzdoom: (unplayable in certain sections, can't see anything) 0 Share this post Link to post
