Foebane72 Posted April 6, 2020 So we see the BFG 10,000, an absolutely massive version of the iconic BFG weapon from Doom, as it is constantly bombarding the demonic forces from afar with regular shots, and even when the player is approaching it and fighting demonic hordes, it keeps going off and can be quite distracting. Then the player gets to aim and fire it directly at Mars, and it turns out that the BFG is more... portable than previously thought, and the player takes it as part of his own arsenal. So, as cool as the scene was, did this just signify that the BFG is a Big Fucking Gun and is really THAT awesome? Or did the giant barrel amplify it in some way? 1 Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted April 7, 2020 I assume that some kind of amplification is happening, since the handheld BFG doesn't evaporate the entire level when you fire it. It does make me wonder if the original BFG was made using some kind of alien technology, ancient artefact or something else that is difficult, if not impossible, to properly replicate. The BFG10000 felt like an homage to Quake 2, which also had a titanic anti-orbital artillery cannon. 0 Share this post Link to post

They mention somewhere that it's firing through some kind of lens that amplifies its power. @NoXionYeah, it's a callback to the Big Gun unit in Q2 for sure. 1 Share this post Link to post

It shows up in the opening video when your marine crashes to the ground in his landing craft or whatever it is, and there is a whole level devoted to it, when you have to escape it in a time limit, just like the Super Gore Nest here. 2 Share this post Link to post

Mehlord Posted April 9, 2020 You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of mars.... Doom Slayer: "How bout I do, anyway?" To be honest to me that level and arc complex are probably the highlight of the whole game. 0 Share this post Link to post
