Chip Posted April 10, 2020 Sometimes in the original DOOM and DOOM 2, if you run fast into the wall, Doomguy bounces off of it like a ball. I was wondering how this works because generally, you would smash your nose, not bounce. I don't have a video, but if you choose a generally large level and run fast into a wall, you can get this. Is this a glitch or a feature of the game to keep the fast-paced gameplay? 0 Share this post Link to post

plums Posted April 10, 2020 Glitch. Linguica did a write up of a bunch of Doom movement quirks, including that one: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/post/1587763 The TL;DR is that Doom's movement math is full of shortcuts, rounding errors and inconsistencies, and sometimes when you're running against or near a wall the engine will calculate your movement as being out-of-bounds, and then just flips the direction of your movement by 180° as a kind of failsafe. 2 Share this post Link to post
Chip Posted April 10, 2020 I know this is now a glitch, but I'm just going to pretend that it's a feature. 1 Share this post Link to post
