story mode doom

No, not call of duty  style, if you were going to make doom (1993) have a in depth story, how would you connect it? Doom, Doom II, TNT, Plutonia?
or would you arrange if far differently, asking for maybe a future project. plus lets see how people differ themselves

A level that connects the last map of the IWAD and the beginning of the other IWAD

I don't understand the question exactly. I would have a hub map where the player returns after each episode and talks to some characters, reads the game's lore that they have unlocked, look at the enemy bestiary as it gets filled, they can test their weapons etc. I would also add story PDA to marine bodies in the maps, you pick them up for reading later in the hub map.

Kinda like in Doom Eternal with that ship thing.

I would try and make the levels feel like they're all truly connected, add some human NPCs from time to time that could perhaps help you. Add a Doom 3 style PDA for you to read through some stuff if you want but not make it necessary, add some spoken dialogue perhaps like Hexen does.

I would ignore TNT and Plutonia because I'm not sure of how to make them fit properly.

1. what does PDA mean?

2. After the events of DOOM 3, you are stranded on Mars's moon and have to fight through the hoards, and collecting DATA about them, like who they used to be before they died and what-not for episode one of DOOM. Episode 2, you die and become an intelligent zombie, where you now have to reach your way to Heaven to be resurrected, so you go to the Tower of Babel where you meet a Harbinger of Doom which you had heard of from your grandfather's stories, but never believed they were true After doing that, in episode 3, You are resurrected but sent back to hell by yourself by God who is really Baphomet in disguise, you are now going insane, and have a split personality. After drilling your way through the death filled planet of hell, you stumble upon a secret doorway that leads to Earth but is blocked by a Spider-Mastermind, who you must kill, but the Spider-Mastermind's one of many siblings decides to avenge her fallen sister by killing your pet rabbit. Devastated, you run through the doorway, but it was a trap! You're stuck in the deepest and darkest layer of Hell where all the already dead demons come back to haunt you forever and forever in the fourth episode. Luckily, you make it out "alive" and can now make your way home in a portal Baphomet himself created. In DOOM 2, you are even more insane and the only people you can talk to are the shocked humans of Earth. On top of that, the Hell Knight is out to arrest you for killing his brothers. Luckily, you kill Baphomet back in hell and await your inevitable death upon Earth. But you are called by the last few people left on Earth that Demons are still being born in the 64th sector of hell. Now, DOOM 64 begins and you must kill all your nightmarish enemies. The one giving birth to the Demons, you find and kill, but in her last breaths, she tells you that you are a clone and that your original body was left stranded in heaven, and a couple of years ago, in Final Doom, you were let go after an overabundance of dead people were on heaven and it could no longer hold you. you were made commander of the Jupiter development site of the newly owned UAC with three other humans since the new UAC thought you were the same marine who saved Earth. they are all killed by a demon invasion, and again, you must kill Baphomet. Later, you are back home free from work, but the UAC makes a Quantum Accelerator that opens up several gates to hell which they were successful in closing most of them but were all killed only having one gate left. You, the marine, take your gun and blast yourself into outer space into the gateway to hell. there, you take on the most beasts you've ever taken on, and finally, you find Baphomet, weaker than ever, but with more backup. After killing him, God decides to put Baphomet back on Earth as a ghost stuck in purgatory, and you stuck in hell, you meet your clone. Your clone shoots you, seeing you are clearly a zombie. But, right before his bullet could leave the chamber, you throw your soul cube at him, and since he is your clone made from dead demon bones, he melts into a carcass and fossilized in the hellish sands. You, as the zombie space marine, sit there, enjoying the view with your pet Daisy's head as you melt from the fire below, and turned into ash.

if the goal is to make it so you can have story that you can just ignore if you want, I would have recordings of messages that you can play back

It would go as DOOM, DOOM2, PLUTONIA and TNT with some minor changes:

  • DooM: Episodes 1 to 3 remain unchanged, the text screen of episode 3 would be different, say, Doomguy was tricked into thinking Hell gave up and let him go back to Earth by a portal opening right after the Mastermind was defeated, however it's actually a portal to a deeper more twisted part of hell, this is where Thy Flesh Consumed takes place, wich is followed by Sigil, the text screen from TFC shows that the Icon of Sin is growing tired of Doomguy and wants to break him, so he sent our hero to an even deeper more twisted part of hell, in the end the Icon of Sin bends over backwards, opens a final portal, this time to Earth, not as an act of mercy but one of sadism, our hero is then warped in the outskirts of his home city, so he can witness countless demons wreacking havoc, faint screams of horror and agony filling the air, and worst of all, the head of his pet rabbit.
  • DooM ][: Overcomed by a ferocious bloodlust and desire for vengeance, Doomguy vows to avenge the death of his loved ones. His radio notifies our hero of a message from military to all available marines announcing all forces to secure the starport installation near the industrial district in order to ensure a way out for survivors to escape and survive this nightmare. DooM ][ proceeds as usual, once the Icon of Sin dies, all hell gates on Earth instantly closed, hell's reality is slowly subsiding, demonic possession can't happen anymore as well as demonic teleportation, there are still millions of demons roaming the Earth, and Doomguy willigly joins as part of an elite clean up group to hunt them down so rebuilding efforts can take place world wide.
  • The Plutonia Experiment: 10 years have passed since the last invasion, Doomguy is pulled from his clean up duty by UAC representatives offering him the possition of chief of security for a highly classified project, one wich will prevent further demonic invasions, forever. Doomguy reluctantly agrees and he's sent to a military fortress deep in Central Africa, from this point onwards Plutonia remains unchanged gameplay and storywise.
  • TNT Evilution: a few years have passed since the Quantum Accelerator incident, fortunately it never scaled into a full blown demonic invasion. Impressed by how our hero once again survived a demonic invasion he's sent by the UAC to a place where his talents might be put to good use once again, at this point most of the Earth is mostly safe, some demon stragglers still roam. It takes 4 months for Doomguy's shuttle to arrive to the base at Io. TNT also remains unchanged after this point. Once Doomguy kills the newly revivde Icon of Sin once and for all, it's death echoes to all of hell, all other demons and zombies die aswell as their lives are tethered to the Icon, their corpses slowly evaporates in clouds of bloody mist. Hell was finally defeated for eternity, unfortunately Doomguy also gets trapped there forever.

Most of the story would unfold trough PDA's, text screens and ingame cutscenes in the style of Strife.

I knew it would take up a lot of space, I didn't want it to take up more lines than needed.
