This palette looks awesome. Makes Doom look warmer...

And the cacodemon projectile looks cooler

Wait how the hell did you manage to get this working with BTSX

I know that if two or more PWADS modifies the same thing (the palette in this case) the last wad called in the command will override the previous ones. So, doing this:

zdoom -iwad DOOM2.WAD -file btsx_e1a.wad btsx_e1b.wad magazine.wad

Magazine's palette will override the BTSX palette. But I must say, some stuff looks funny:

Anyway, if I make an mapset, can I use your palette if I give you the credits?

Yeah BTSX moves some colors around in its palette and resources, so a palette based on the stock palette won't mesh perfectly.

As an avid fan of CGW (thank God for the online archives) this PLAYPAL really tickles me. Cool idea dude, I'll try it - might be useful in future projects.

You've gone and done it. You've created the perfect palette.

Damn, interesting palette. Looks really great, definitely will explore this more. Although I've gotta say, I am a bit disappointed, too. I thought Doom will really look like a "bad magazine screenshot", which were mostly blurry, sometimes photographed from CRTs and generally just "ugh". Hehe.

Since a few people seem to unironically enjoy the look of this, here's a more balanced version that's less redwashed and with the radioactive blues slightly turned down:

MagazineB.zip

And with the vanilla and MagazineB titlepics for better comparison:

titlepic1.png.35451dbc19eaf0dc4c5135490017c70d.pngtitlepicm.png.ee0da1052b85427eb1e2a1323a87e19e.png

(As a side note, some artifacts can be seen here due to certain colors no longer fading to black properly. Does anyone know a method for hunting down the offending colors? ie figuring out which pixel's color on the titlepic is mapped to which playpal index?)

I think in Slade there's an image editor utility where you can hover the cursor over part of an image to see what palette entry it's using, but I can't find it right now.. I swear that was an option once upon a time (or I'm just missing it at the moment)

Now what am I supposed to call my addon that correctly identifies small bullet pickups?
