ZeMystic Posted May 11, 2020 (edited) Episode 3 of ZeMystic plays stubbornly doom in weird and obscure ways. I am running MBF through a lovely port of dosbox on android (Magic Dosbox, its amazing. Get it.) And while normal doom.exe drums work fantastic, MBF, or boom really, don't play drums no matter how I configure things. I am using SoundBlaster 16, and using a rom of Roland sc55. I opened ASETUP.exe, which is Allegro setup, which is a really neat setup. There it auto detects my soundcard, SB16, and then the midi. Which I set to MPU-401, which uses the Roland SC55. When I boot up MBF, the sounds play, the music plays minus the drums. Now I could just deal with that, but why would I? Let's make things difficult and fix it. Any ideas how to fix? I will edit OP with the fix for the three other people who want to fix this issues, once it is solved. Cheers. EDIT: The Adlib midi option for ASETUP.exe will play the drums in game. Picking SB Out Midi turns off the music and sound all together, so that also wont work. I want to have my high class midi's damnt, so still looking for a solution. dr_st Posted May 11, 2020 Is that MBF 2.04? I think there were changes to the Allegro library between versions. Maybe you want to consult the current MBF maintainer, gerwin, on VOGONS. https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=40857 I would have suspected the port or the ROM, but you say it works fine in normal DOOM under 'General Midi'... 1 Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted May 11, 2020 It would be interesting to know the precise MBF version as the issue will lie with Allegro. Try running 2.04 if you are running 2.03. If you are running 2.04 and you have already tried Boom as well it seems likely you are dealing with some long standing weird compatibility issue with Allegro itself, and finding a solution may prove troublesome. 1 Share this post Link to post

It is 2.04, and it runs on windows fine, but through magic dosbox its being a huge pain 0 Share this post Link to post

It sounds like weird compatibility problem between that version of DOSBox, the ROM and Allegro or two of the three. You seem to have done due diligence trying different options.
