Gokuma Posted May 19, 2020 (edited) I think neither side is wholly to blame. id contacted Mick way late in development to do the soundtrack in January after the game was delayed. He overestimated what he could finish in a short time frame and didn't react so well when things got tight. Chad could only do so much with the compressed form he received unfinished tracks in. Seems everyone was stuck in a hard place with pressing deadlines building frustration and stress (which the pandemic certainly didn't help). I hope somehow things get resolved civilly and the soundtrack gets improved but we can only hope. But enough of that or the ongoing reason that many of us including me are not playing the game. Let's just discuss the good stuff on this topic. It seems these 11 tracks are Mick's finished ones (Not determined by me): 02. Cultist Base 11. Cultist Prayer 18. The Icon of Sin 22. The Only Thing They Fear Is You 27. Welcome Home Great Slayer (shorter than Side A of Cassette) 28. Prayer of the Diminished (shorter than music_802) 34. Sinister 38. Command and Control (confirmed by Mick) 54. Meathook (confirmed by Mick) 56. The Betrayer 57. DOOM Eternal (longer than music_109) But there are some other good tracks. Here is a guide to extracting the soundtrack from the game but I don't know if it still works as well after the latest patch. Be warned you end up with 1104 audio files simply numbered with no titles. There are a lot of tracks from other Doom games, tons of short pieces of music, and it seems some repeats, in no organized order whatsoever. I had a little difficulty but I ended up with all these extracted and converted to OGG format. Oddly the convert to OGG .bat seemed to fail and then the other mp3 conversion .bat created the OGGs. Just deleted the very first track which didn't seem to be a working piece of audio. In that guide, there's three custom Franken-mp3s for download made by copying and pasting pieces together. One includes a new rendition of part of D_E2M3 discussed further below. The Doomwiki pages have some good notes about what parts of tracks are based on classic music for both Eternal and 2016. 18. The Icon of Sin is an awesome pants-crapping epic. Do not listen to it if you have weak constitution or a heart condition. 57. DooM Eternal. I love this track! It was so awesome and eerie when I first started up the game, to be greeted by a badass new rendition of DooM II Map30's music, Opening to Hell. And a section of it is based on D_E1M3, "Dark Halls," which I consider to be an awesome track in Doom 1. I found this to be music_109 in the extracted soundtrack though that version is 4:41 long opposed to the Official Soundtrack version being 4:57. Maybe I'll come across the 4:57 one in these extracts or maybe that was further polished for the OST. EDIT: 40. Sam's Base contains this other new rendition of part of Dark Halls - music_51 or music_1040. I think I heard it in game down in the sewers of Super Gore Nest (and that section of the stage might be called Toxin Refinery same as the original E1M3). New D_E2M3, Intermission from DOOM based one: music_83 or music_291 - just short piece of it. I think I may have heard this in game as well somewhere but haven't found it within the 59 track OST yet. I appreciate the D_Victor parts featured in 56. Betrayer. Track 51. Taras Nabad seems to be a little shorter version. I don't think I've come across these in the extracted music yet. Track 59. Final Sin - Sandy City is great but unfortunately very short. Under 2 min and the part that's actually Into Sandy's City is only about 40 sec long from 0:44 to 1:24. Haven't found in extracts yet. OST cassette tape being played: https://youtu.be/uhuQ7QWUw6A?t=497 Contains 27. Welcome Home Great Slayer which contains a new rendition of D_E1M8/D_E3M4/E4M1, Sign of Evil. The Side A track is 4:48, a bit longer than Track 27 which is 3:15. So far I've skimmed through music_1-200, 291, 800-1104 of the extracted music. 506 down, 598 to go. BTW, somewhat off topic side note, but I noticed there's a new Killer Instinct on steam with its soundtrack done by Mick. Edited May 23, 2020 by Gokuma 1 Share this post Link to post
Gokuma Posted May 22, 2020 (edited) The cassette tape doesn't have much on it. According to https://www.discogs.com/Mick-Gordon-Chad-Mossholder-DOOMDOOM-Eternal-Original-Game-Soundtracks/release/14945796 , Side A with the music is only 4:48 and Side B with ambience and monster sounds is 4:57. Look at all that empty space inside the cassette. It has very little tape in it. Here's a quick listing of extracted music of significant length (out of what I skimmed through so far) though I haven't tried to match them up with the OST yet (Lots of incomplete pieces. Left out most that are under 30 sec and some pieces over 30 sec) Times may not be exact music_2 - 1:30 13 - 1min 19 - 1:15 41 - 0:50 *51 - DarkHalls based part of 40. Better than the midi sounds for most people but not as good as Bobby Prince's CD 22/50/810, 24, 26, 37, 55, 119, 149, 812, 823, 882, 894, 988, 998, 1003, 1029, 1060, 1081, 1084, 1103 Of course I've read that there's Doom 2016 music mixed in there and there might even be Doom 3 music which I'm least familiar with. I recently got the Doom 2016 double CD OST and it's great. Playing through the game it didn't quite grab me and I heard the same music too frequently but the OST CD's really kick ass.
