The DOOM movie....

It's on the Horror Channel at the moment.  It just struck me - I like it much more than most of the reviews give it credit for. I just realised why I think it's OK: Take it as 'The doom 3 Movie' rather than 'The Doom Movie' - the aesthetic is definitely Doom 3 influenced rather than classic Doom. Karl Urban is pretty cool as doomguy as well.

Exactly. I do wish most people wouldn't shit on the 2005 film. It's not bad.

The first-person-shooter sequence near the end of the movie rules, but the rest of it is pretty boring in my opinion.

It is a bit paint by numbers and not really Doomy enough, but it's far from the worst movie of it's type and yes, Karl Urban is great.

I like the aesthetic of it and the cast is cool. My only issue is that it's not demons. If Doom doesn't have demons what will?

Have you seen him in Dredd (2012)? Urban can really kill it as a no-nonsense badass, so he'd definitely work well should he ever be cast as Doomguy proper.

Yeah, that Dredd film is excellent. Much better than the Stallone effort. Though IIRC, the SFX for the ABC Warrior robots was cool (but completely wrong characters).

If you are in to JD/2000AD, check out some of the youtube fan films: Judge Minty for example (based on a really old story in the megazine I think it was).

Never understood that. It's not like Hell and demons are not featured in lots of other films. Perhaps it was a marketing/censorship thing?

I recently saw Annihilation on netflix.   It's better than I expected, but some stuff really irked me.   It seems the saying whatever one movie does right, the other does wrong, and vice versa is true.   Except monster variety, while both are somewhat decent movies, they both sucked at that.   If no one gets a huge budget budget to do another one, I think they should let Uwe Boll take a crack at it.

 

EDIT:  That was Doom Annihilation of course.   More recently I saw a freaky incredible movie just called Annihilation, with no relation.  Highly recommend that one.

Possibly, could also be the writer having issues with paranormal as a plot point. Look at the new Wolfenstein games where everything needs a basic scientific explanation.
Disclaimer: I think that "scientific" and "paranormal" are just nomenclatures that videogames don't need to systematically delve into or explain. Mystery is cool too.

Since Doom 2016 and Eternal really hashed out and expanded on Doom's narrative, filmmakers would certainly have a lot more material to work off of should such a project with a budget larger than a Domino's pizza order ever be put into production.

The only problem is a far superior version of that already exists, that's very good, (and if had not been the victim of a lot of studio interference and cuts, probably would have been great) called Event Horizon.
