I haven't even begun to look through the single level wads sitting in my Doom 1 and 2 directories yet, not to mention I also have several CDs from UK PC magazines which had their own Doom level design competitions, which I keep meaning to look through for stuff never uploaded to idgames or archive.org :)

Hey DooM kid, you'll need to update my TMoD post in the mega-pack since I ironically didn't make TMoD Vanilla compatible with vanilla.

aaay Oops all Techbase is on here! Good thing too, not sure how likely it is to appear on idgames since it uses assets from Doom 1, but I wont speak for the project leads. This is a great pack for playing in an under ground bunker after the world ends and the internet disappears. It is 2020 after all.

You’re right on the money. That’s why I’ve been doing all this compiling lately - curating Wads, collecting soundfonts.. Got my solar powered generator and ultra-low power consumption laptop at the ready. Even the end of civilisation as we know it won’t keep me from DOOM!

I really should have been keeping backups of every TXT file for every version of the pack.. How dumb of me! That way people could've compared the READMEs from every version of the pack since 2018 and see which wads were added in which revision.. D'oh!

Thanks Red, I’ll give it a thorough check through! Is there any way I can get in touch with this person?

 

Ideally, since we have very similar goals, our packs should have lots of overlap. For example I notice this dir on Git has basically all of the Dwango series, but missing text files. They could easily be plucked from my pack just for the sake of completeness.

 

Since I don't know the person running it personally it might be stupid to suggest this depending on their since of humor, but since this is Maximum Doom the way Kid Did, it would be hilarious of the alternate vanilla pack was called "D!Zone 21st Century Edition" or some such like that, just to push the feeling of big shovelware compilations in the new era, lol. It's one thing I really miss about the Old Era of Doom.

 

Seems like they're going for a more purist route - My pack comes with all kinds of 'aftermarket enhancements' like DoomP.exe and Doom32.exe, FastDoom and a ton of editing utils for DOS, not to mentioned about 20-30 "slightly limit removing" stuff that the true vanilla EXE can't handle. Compared to what 99% of Doomers play today that's still very "pure" on the vanillaness scale, but I'd be happy to see a truly pure pack reach a number of wads around 500 or so.

 

I do have a point at which I plan to stop updating this pack:

 

-When Rowdy Rudy II is 100% finished and in it's idgames-ready state,

-Ideally I'd like to have NaZa's finished Misjudged Massacre in the pack, when it's done (could be a while)

-When FastDoom development is pretty much complete or "fully optimized", or wherever the devs feel content leaving it

 

Of course, any great vanilla or "dos compat" LR wads that I find between now and then I'll happily stick in there, but once all 3 points above are done, updates to this pack will become more of a "once or twice a year" type schedule.

@Doomkid don't know if you know about this:
 

Its totally obscure, vanilla, three episode wad for UDoom.
Also, i think that the maps may be on /idgames archives but i searched around on what you added to your pack and i didn't found them. I not checked all, but at least a complete episode and a half aren't there. And maybe, i don't know because i did't check it myself, i think that this maps are somewhat altered by Nathan Lineback from the originals on the archives.

So, if you add it to your compendium, it will be a good way to make it more known and preserve it for the times and players to come.

Love that you mentioned Doom-plus but also Doom32 and FastDoom. Whenever XTTL finishes his ultimate Vanilla Doom hack, i reckon that will be the standard extended executable hack to reply upon.

Possibly a daft suggestion, but how do you feel about a experimental WAD section that highlights, for instance, advanced stuff like colored lights, or advanced scripting like Linguortals?

I think that would be a fantastic idea, those effects are really interesting and it may help to make knowledge about them even more accessible to people interested in vanilla modding!

Sorry to be a pain in the arse @Doomkid, but ph_25yoe has been finalised and updated in a fairly significant way. When you're ready to do an update, you may want to include the /idgames version of it too!

I think it has to be vanilla, so limit removing is a no go.

I actually have Doom32/DoomP included for limit removing sets! I'll still test it though since it may still do other things the expanded EXEs can't handle, but if CPD works in them, I'll pop it in too.

 

OpenRift, I sadly don't know any dedicated DM wads for Doom1. There are loads of (not so good) single maps floating around, or you could always use the Doom2 to Doom1 converter (DM2CNV32)

What a Doom treasure trove you're stashing here, Doomkid. This is incredible, and you're going through a ton of work, no doubt.

Many thanks for sharing these with your fellow doomers. All these great WADs in one place might just give us a vanilla overdose.

Hey Doomkid, if you want to, you could add the recent 21-map beta release of DOOM 87: The Lost World.  The final 32 map megawad is still a WIP, but perhaps the current beta would fit nicely until then :)

Hey, so I was going through some of the DM WADs and found that dmpack.wad had some vanilla issues for deathmatch, so I've made a fixed version here:

 

dmpack_fixed.rar

 

Changes:

  • Fixed exit bug on MAP10, allowing players to manually exit to MAP11 instead of restarting the map (DM) or going back to MAP01 (SP)
  • Fixed a "no more plats" bug on MAP17
  • Fixed some misaligned textures that weren't present in the WADs they were taken from
  • Disabled certain scrolling textures in MAP22 to maintain vanilla compatibility (now static texture)
  • Added exit to MAP24
