Recent remaster craze

Recommended Posts

With all these remasters coming out. What WADs would you love to see remastered?

For me, I'd in some ways love to see Void remastered, it's such a delight, I'd also really love to see Super Sonic Doom with the same treatment too.

Eternal DooM, maybe? Or better, TNT megawads, but not only remasters, i would love to see sequels non stop to their work! (I'm looking at you TNT2: Devilution ;(
I love them from start to end, but they get switch cryptic sometimes, specially ETERNAL...
I will use this space to thanks Eternal, Lainos, Wraith777, Shadowman, and all the members of the Russian community for the incredible atmospheric and marvelously moody work they made thus far. Thanks for your hard work. I love it!!!

Aside from that, it would be interesting to see a remake of Requiem, or a bugfix, or a proper release of it as it was released on perpetual beta state.

I would love to see a remake of The Talosian Incident. I love it! But i think it could be a little better and with more details.
I pray every day to the DoomGods (Romero? Carmack?) to influence Gwyn Williams to make a comeback and give us a sequel to Vile Flesh. OH LORD! What a mapset!!!

I also hear in the distance a whispering scream that calls for Erik Alm all the time, but well, that is a reocurring dream that will never come true.

EDIT: a sequel to Hell to Pay, or a remake would be neat as it the best atmospheric mapset from that time.

Implying episode 4 didn't ship out broken in general.

And here I am thinking they were the only two actually fun maps in the whole darn episode..

EDIT: Actually, I'll also give Fear (the secret level) a pass because it's fun too, even if it feels more like an E2 map and is pretty out-of-place in E4..

Perfect Hatred is the best map in Ultimate Doom. E4 drops hard after level 2

RETURN TO SATURN X BAAAYYBEE!!!!.

Isn't Back to Saturn X E3 supposed to come out sometime in the near(???) future, any way? Don't think it needs remastered, its already the best Vanilla megawad ever made.

I think it'd be pretty cool to see a Khorus' Speedy Shit remaster, with a few custom textures, better detailing, and the fixing of that one bug where that key only appears in UV (though maybe this would ruin the nature of the project). Generally, I like the idea of remastering and iterating on speed maps, since that's kind of how I do it anyway.

I'm not a big remake guy, but Batman Doom would really benefit from some modernization.

There already is a “Batman Doom Reborn” on ZDoom.org

STRAIN is still great to play even though the 3D model enemies are just so... 90's.

Edited by Dark Pulse : Bug fixed. That'll be $49.99.

I would even say, "Remaster" :)

Nothing honestly, since remasters tend to be a mixed bag in general. They're usually better in some respects but worse, or much worse in others, so I prefer sticking to the originals.

I would love remasters for any of my favorite wads really. not necessarily because I think they're lacking, but just because updated versions would be awesome to have, and the original would still always be there for me. Scythe 2 comes to mind, AV, Darkening E2, and probably some others

I think remasters are a good thing for the most part.

Like @Tango said, the original would still always be there. I like the idea of older wads getting a new lick of paint with menu graphics / titlepic / new tetures and bugfixes and such.

Only thing to avoid is going too far with the fixxer upper and ending up with two projects that split from the original, like I did. But that's a another story. Thing is, I couldn't make the original any worse, so I have that going for me which is nice. :D

i really wish to put my hands on your new take on Vilecore, pal!

Its look like a great improvement.

Really thinking about it, I kinda prefer ZDoom mods to get remasters, Vanilla WADs are pretty much fine for most of the part. Though some could do with some updating, like adding more custom music to the first 2 Community Chests.

I kind of cringe over the existing versions of almost all of my released maps. Those I would particularly love to re-do are my maps for Gothic DM 2 and the Darkening E1 (my Darkening E2 map is in a bit of a better state, mainly because I just copied the style of the preceding map).

Something else I would like to do at some point is dust off the almost completed levels for Paradox, a project abandoned about 20 years ago. There's probably enough to make an 11 level set, and they include contributions from some relatively well known names from the community's past, specifically Paul "Moe" Fleschute, Yashar "Gemini" Garibzadeh, David "DaGGer" Gevert, Tomi "Lu Wang" Rajala, Mike "Prower" Reid, Rick "Wildman" Clark, and Mike "Risen" Niggel. Most of the levels really show their age, and the texture wad everyone was using seems to have been lost to the mist of times, so it would be quite a bit of work.

Thanks. One of these days it'll be done. Vilecore 1.2 will be complete before Vilecore 2, since I went full UDMF on 2.

You have enough custom textures made by now to help with the resurrection. ;)

Any of the really early hardcore .wads that make Doom 2's level design look like the Ancient Gods descended from the Heavens bearing gifts of ambrosia, manna and eternal life.

I just can't deal with how ugly everything in Plutonia is.

An AV remaster, or at least a sequel/homage/reimagining.

I would love to see Memento Mori series remastered to be played SP only. Some switches gave me headache before I found out these were placed for coop.

That would be cool too, finally an actually playable MAP 31...

''But if it could be better, then make it''.

I don't expect something perfect, but less cryptic would be nice.
I played it without any walkthourgh, but i spent like an hour or more per map hahaha.

It wasn't a bug, it was a feature. Either way, it's fixed.

Now send me $49.99.

Ooh, that would be great!  30+ levels of wall humping every inch of every wall in enormous maps to find hidden switches!  [/sarcasm]

That Excalibur level (map 30) of Eternal Doom in particular was something else...
