Bubbleman100 Posted May 27, 2020 Could anyone tell me why Romero abandoned his project The Black Room? 0 Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted May 27, 2020 The game was planned to be crowdfunded on the Kickstarter platform, but the project was cancelled in April 2016.[1][3] The game was set to launch during the winter quarter of 2018.[1] However, as of March 2020, there have been no more updates about the game's development. 1 Share this post Link to post

Ferk Posted May 27, 2020 (edited) It's been on hold for a long time but you may sign in for updates on https://www.nightworkgames.com/ This was a screenshot of the last update on the kickstarter on 2016 (shared by an anonymous backer): 1 Share this post Link to post
Aaron Blain Posted May 28, 2020 This is one reason I prefer Doom. As production values go up, creative freedom goes down. I don't think the creative energy of the best designers from the 80s and 90s translates well into the modern era. I'd much rather see more stuff like Romero's taco truck game, or low-poly throwback shooters like Aeon or Dusk that don't require piles of money and centuries of human-hours of work. 6 Share this post Link to post

On second thought this makes a lot of sense 1 Share this post Link to post
Smouths Posted May 28, 2020 (edited) Out of curiousity, did the backers ever get refunded? Or did the team just kinda go quiet on the game after a while? 0 Share this post Link to post
SaladBadger Posted May 28, 2020 funding was canceled before the kickstarter met its deadline, so no backer money would have been taken. 2 Share this post Link to post
floatRand Posted May 30, 2020 I don't think Black Room is moving forward at the moment as Romero is already working on another game entirely (that prohibition-era mafia game) - although I haven't checked on it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted May 30, 2020 Shame to see the game be shelved, at least for the time being. I do hope we get a more clear explanation from them at some point regarding what really happened. I was really looking forward to seeing Adrian Carmack make a return to gaming, considering how awesome and iconic his art has always been for us. 0 Share this post Link to post
