Bubbleman100 Posted June 6, 2020 How many versions does bfg have in all id software games 0 Share this post Link to post
Chip Posted June 6, 2020 there are never enough BFG's. Seriously, I feel like the title of this should be more than a letter. Something that actually explains the topic. Like Versions of BFG or something. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mordeth Posted June 6, 2020 Edited topic title to be more than just the letter 'v'. OP may want to avoid doing that next time. 2 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted June 6, 2020 I wonder how different are the Doom 3 and 4 BFG9000s from the Quake 2 BFG10k. 0 Share this post Link to post
seed Posted June 6, 2020 I think 7 or so. Classic Doom/Doom 64 have one (same across all games), Quake 2, Doom 3, Rage, Doom 2016, Rage 2, and Eternal all have one. 0 Share this post Link to post

Quake 2's BFG10k doesn't blow up in your face like Doom 3's, so my theory is that it is, as the name implies, a new version that worked out the 9k series kinks (if they existed in the same universe ofc). Doom 4's is probably just an alternate reality where the BFG is a screen-clearer straight out of a shmup game, but in hand held-ish flavor 0 Share this post Link to post

Phobus Posted June 6, 2020 The one in Rage 2 is more of an Easter Egg, right? Or a pre-order bonus. I know I never got it on my play through... Not that you need it, with how powerful you end up by about halfway through the game. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted June 6, 2020 (edited) I get to 10 from official games, and to 14 with some bonus non-id, non-game or non-official versions. Classic Doom's BFG9000, seen in Doom, Doom II, Final Doom, but also in the RPG spinoffs Doom 64's BFG9000 -- basically the classic version mechanically, but it has a different look, so I count it separately just because I can Quake II's BFG 10K Quake III Arena's BFG 10K Doom 3's BFG 9000 Rage's Authority Pulse Cannon fires BFG rounds, so I'll count it too, you can't stop me Doom 2016's BFG 9000 Rage 2's BFG 9000 (collector's edition goodie) Doom Eternal BFG 9000 (largely the same as 2016's) Doom Eternal BFG 10000 (non-portable giant cannon, powered by a BFG 9000) Bonus Zone: Fallout 4 Creation Club's BFG 9000 Bonus Zone: Doom Movie 2005's Bio force Gun 3.14 Bonus Zone: Doom: Annihilation's BFG 9000 Bonus Zone: Skulltag's BFG10K 3 Share this post Link to post
SiFi270 Posted June 6, 2020 (edited) You could also argue that Wolf09's Leichenfaust is the "original" BFG. Then there's the beta "looks like Christmas" version. edit: And VFR has the BFG grenade launcher. Edited June 6, 2020 by SiFi270 0 Share this post Link to post

It certainly has some cosmetic and gameplay similarities, but it's not connected by name or by in-game lore, so I'm not gonna count it. 2 hours ago, SiFi270 said: Then there's the beta "looks like Christmas" version. edit: And VFR has the BFG grenade launcher. Tetzlaff Posted June 6, 2020 (edited) Thanks for the video, that looks pretty cool. And there is a Doomguy player model as well. edit: this should be added here https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Doom_references_in_other_games 0 Share this post Link to post
