The Abandoned Maps - Episode 1 [GZDOOM]

Recommended Posts

This is just a repackaging of my unreleased and unfinished maps that I won't continue working on. (Though now I kinda want to make a remake of the first one. Maybe I will try to limit myself with other less capable map formats this time.)

There are some finished maps in here and there is even a fixed version of a map I submitted to Joel's Doom contest. (My map got played in the first stream, and he encountered a bug that I only found out after I submitted it.)

Even if I am aware of a lot of the problems with these maps, both on the gameplay and technical side, I would appreciate any kind of feedback.

Stuff you probably need to know to play these maps:

-Needs Doom2

-Runs (probably) only in GZDoom.

-You need to jump and crouch in some places. Otherwise, the map has it disabled.

-Freelook is probably required. These maps have a few enemies in very high or low places.

-These maps will probably look bad in the software render.

Here is a list of the maps, a description and some screenshots.

The Factory Directors Cut (completed, fully playable):

This is the map I submitted for Joel's second Doom contest. If you remember, he encountered a gamebraking bug. That bug has been fixed for this version. There are two more maps in this one. I have started this map before Joel showed the rules for the second contest, so I assumed that we would get three maps again. The second is a lot shorter and could probably be finished in under three minutes. The third one however is a lot larger and more difficult on UV (could also mean more fun but that's debatable in my opinion.) This is also the only map here with different difficulties.

Unusual Escape (completed, fully playable):

This is a smaller map in which I wanted to make a facility (yes, again). For a long time this map was in an unfinished state until about a year ago when I finished this map to have an ending as well. I could just release this on its own but I thought, why not include it here?

The Ultimate JAWM (completed, fully playable):

You might remember the name JAWM. It's a weapon mod that I released some time ago. This map was supposed to come with it and there was even a whole episode planned that is balanced around that mod. However, that didn't happen and only this map got finished. It is set on a space station on the moon (what an original setting for Doom, right?). I even had a story planned for this, but from what I remember, it would be very edgy and cringy.

Demonic Presence (incomplete, only a few monsters at the start):

The first unfinished map of this pack. I honestly don't even remember what my Idea for this was.

Practice Map (incomplete, no monsters):

This is basically me just messing around in Doom Builder and then just dropping the map after a week. A shame really. I actually like the first area of the map.
