Is there a mod that will make the rocket launcher always hit the target for doom 2?

Recommended Posts

I am sick of the icon of sin! I did it once and I did not want to do it again but now I just want the mod because something is up whenever the platform is going up the rockets go even higher when it is time to launch them into the brain! Please, if there a mod for this I don’t want to have to do this in a week and a half again I just want to finish this boss.

it's called freelook. It's mostly a option in all sourceports, just use it on Icon of Sin if you wish.

No I don’t want the option to look up and down I just want the rocket to hit John Romero. I have done it before I just don’t know how anymore I mainly just play doom 1

Being able to look up and down will make it easier to hit John Romero. Timing won't matter, you can just aim down a little after the lift reaches the top. If you're concerned that freelook is a form a cheating, it's not really any worse than using a mod that somehow helps your rockets hit their target.

If you want to know how to hit John Romero legitimately, you basically have to fire your rocket while the lift is still raising and almost at the top. Getting the right timing may take some practice. According to the Doom Wiki, "It takes practice to time correctly, although one can say that firing as the tip of the rocket launcher reaches the gigantic demon's chin is reliable." I remember using this advice myself and it helps to at least give you a rough idea of when the rocket should be fired.

I think there are mods where you can play as a revenant. Those might allow you to lock on an enemy.

a mod also ruins the limitations of old Doom.

Even moreso one that has a heat-seeking rocket launcher.

Ahh yes. Heat seeking missiles...  This doesnt feel like cheating or ruining the limitation AT ALL.

Problem with heat seeking or homing rockets;

They only work if you can physically see the target or some pathing. The hole from that the rocket enters is above said target, not able to register a hitbox strike. Thats the whole gimmick of Icon is to just let the splash damage do its thing.

Man, just time it right. The IOS is the only fun boss in classic Doom because it’s the only one that offers any challenge. I hope you’ve at least beat it once the right way once before gimping it!!

I never really found that to be a worthy or fun challenge

Just try to shoot rockets in a tiny box

I always hated that one

It's literally the only aspect of classic Doom I don't like

Felt like a very anticlimactic let down end of the game

Feels very out of place in terms of how every other map is played

And to make it worse TNT and plutonia and almost every other megawad just reuse the same ending

It's just a matter of preferences I suppose. There are numerous bosses in Star Fox and Mario games that use the same concept - "shoot the vulnerable point on the enemy for the brief window of time where it's exposed" - and I enjoy it there too, so maybe that's why. I've also seen many people complain about TNT's teleporter puzzle on map30 even though it's a piece of piss.

It sucks that people often dislike these imo, because it's two rare times throughout the iwads you're doing something other than "shoot enemy until it dies". I know that's the core conceit of Doom, but requiring slightly different skills to come into play here and there makes it more interesting. Just different strokes, I also enjoy BFGing Cyberdemons any day of the week, I just don't feel the same pressure because it's so easy by comparison.

I'll confess that I haven't done a classic IoS fight in ages, although that's mainly because I'm terrible at finishing WADs. Even so, having to stand on a rising platform and wait to shoot a single rocket at a small target on a wall while being battered about the place by cunting demons feels more like a chore than a fun pastime.

As I remember my last fight, turning on freelook helps, but it's not an "I win" button. You still gotta do some aiming, it's just that your margin for error is increased making the experience less frustrating, at least for me.

Quit the game

Step Two:
Go back to playing Wolfenstein3D
