This sounds super interesting and fun, but I'm not very good at making maps, only made maps in doom in doom 2 format, and have idea how to use voodoo dolls. Can I still try my hand at making a map?

I have no idea how voodoo dolls work and im still joining! Dont worry man you'll do fine

Is the "the X floor" naming scheme concrete, or will there be some play for creativity? Like rather than have "the lobby" it could be "lobby of doom" or "square 1", or something as example.

Not a big or important question, just wondering if it is going to be "the grave room", "the tech-sinew room", "the gloomwood room"? And such.

Those that aren't "floor" are fixed. The X Floor can allow for some variation, but I think it would be cool to retain naming scheme.

All the voodoo dolls that need to exist are set in template already. You can get around on doom 2 actions just fine.

Ah man if I hadn't already committed to a couple maps this month I would join. Good luck to everyone!

If you're alright with receiving a little constructive criticism, you'll be fine.

Voodoo dolls are pretty easy, it's like you're making a Rube Goldberg machine in your map. I'd give this a watch before mapping officially begins for a good explanation at how they work and how they can be used: https://youtu.be/0XKIB8mkYMs?t=191

That's funny I watched a bunch of decino videos, his videos are why I played through valiant. I kinda get what voodoo dolls are but can't think of how to use them well. The video had some good simple examples though. I think learning how to use boom to move them around and just whatever boom can do differently than doom2 format is what I should focus on. Constructive criticism would be great, I would love to learn how to use voodoo dolls and how use the other formats. I just started making maps but it pretty addicting. I am finishing up a 5 map project now. I should be finished on the last map by this weekend, then I can start messing around trying to learn voodoo dolls and boom stuff.

Basically, when there's multiple starts for the same player, all place a doomguy on the map but you only control the last one placed. The others are called Voodoo dolls and be damaged, pick up items or pass through linedefs. Combined with a scrolling sector that are possible in boom and maybe some doors, you can make a switch that performs multiple actions, or have actions be performed when level starts.

But you don't really need to think about it, because all the mandatory ones are in the template wad. It makes floor raise a bit, raises some ceiling and lowers some floors for cool effect on the door and does the same in reverse when you flip the red switch.

Oh so ACS like scripting in Boom.

I map more with Gzdoom format so mapping with Boom will be an interesting learning point!

In a 4 and a half days we already have 8 map. Some of them are pretty great.

There's plenty of free slots left for those interested.

Quite a lot actually. There's a link to discord where this is hosted, with claims updated in real time.

In 13 days, we have 15 maps. Some of them require a little bug and texture fixing during "bug-fixing time". To celebrate this occasion and self-bump a little I have decided to post some screenshots for fully finished maps. I didn't specify map names since they might change when compiling the wad for release.

And don't forget, there's plenty of maps left for you to try making. Join us on discord. Or post here or PM me if you don't like Discord.

Hi, I'm gonna try to whip something up for this in the next few days.

There's been a claiming wave, so there's only a few slots remain. Come to our discord when you are ready to start and make a claim.
