Help splitscreen side-by-side

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I want to play classic doom/doom2 with my son, side-by-side splitscreen, co-op and deathmatch.

For player 1, me, I want to use keyboard, except numpad.

For player 2, my son, I want to use numpad and mouse.

Also sometimes want to load a specific map directly, don't want to always start from e1m1/map01.

As a bonus, ability to play mods would be great as well, vanilla compatible or not.

What is the easiest way I can achieve this on a windows7 PC?

I normally use dosbox, chocolate doom, zdoom, or some other boom compatible source ports.

I normally don't use zandronum or gzdoom or other "advanced" engines.

I tried SSZDOOM, but it requires a xbox360 controller for second player.

Thanks a lot in advance.

The Steam version now supports splitscreen. You'd need to have a controller for one of the players though. It's the most hassle free way to go about things.

Yeah but It requires a controller, I need only keyb+mouse.

It's the most hassle free but doesn't give me what I want.

Doom Legacy 1.42 has split screen and still works well on Win7, and has vanilla mod compatibility and most Boom compat as well. You can use the launcher to set +splitscreen 1 and +deathmatch 3, and also load custom wads. The big problem is that it’s top and bottom splitscreen, not side to side.. I’m not aware of any “release ready” source ports out there with this option other than the Unity one.

Heres the Legacy download: https://doomshack.org/~doomkid/Utilities/legacy142.zip

AFAIK this is the only place to find 1.42 now!
