P41R47 Posted October 5, 2020 (edited) Vile Flesh is the one i love for certain. It has everything right. But some new megawads are making this love tremble a little. Three is a Crowd is an amazing vanilla megawad like no other. CPD is a massive achievement and very similar to Vile Flesh. The Journey is really appealing to me, even when its kinda silly, i think its a great megawad. Fragport is another that i really like, even when ir has serious flaws, its entertaining, fun and has a really good story. 25 Years on Earth is a project that i think is great and funny, just the things Doom need more. Doom 404 is another one i really like, just to feel my ass kicked like no other. Kama Sutra no more word for this, just flexing in every shooting possition until gamegasm! For last, REKKR is what i crave for all the time. Possibly the best megawad out there right now. I vastly prefer projects that had an strong underlined narrative. And looking to my favourites, i kinda like one man projects, too. 1 Share this post Link to post

smeghammer Posted October 5, 2020 These lists are always difficult. Depends on mood etc... Ones that always spring to mind: Armadosia - cool, massive levels. I keep coming back to this. Breach - not a megawad, but huge and superb so I'm gonna include it anyway. UAC Ultra - not a full megawad, but probably my most memorable WAD with obvious texture replacements P.A.R. - another set of massive maps with really interesting architecture. plus many of the ones mentioned above. 0 Share this post Link to post
Omniarch Posted October 5, 2020 If you threatened me at bfg-point to choose a single megawad, it would unquestionably be No End In Sight. I found pretty much all the maps to be ingenious in some way, dense with atmosphere and beautiful to boot. I wouldn't be stretch to say that NEIS inspired me to make maps of my own. Other favourites include: Alien Vendetta, for the feeling of grand adventure and the many fantastic and original maps the wad contains (Misri Halek, Nemesis and Hillside Siege being my favourites). Doom The Way id Did (including The Lost Episodes and UDTWiD), for the immersive vanilla-style Doom 1 experience. Doom: The Lost Episode, not actually a megawad, but I want to put it here anyway because I love it to bits. Reminds me of NEIS in many ways, unsurprising since Xaser, the wad's project lead, was heavily involved in NEIS. Phobos: Anomaly Reborn, again, not technically a megawad, but it sure feels like one. I put PAR here mainly because it was one of the first pwads I played, and still one of the most unique and immersive. Rowdy Rudy 2: POWERTRIP, for the fresh and original arsenal and overpowering retro goodness. Struggle: The Antaresian Legacy, for the fantastic new arsenal and original gameplay and aesthetics. Valiant, for the excellent dehacked work (especially the Super Chaingun), fast-paced gameplay and original textures. 1 Share this post Link to post
