Doom/2-plus PLUS?

Recommended Posts

Yes, I know I've made more than enough posts about exe hacks. No, I don't care.

Okay, so, I was thinking, there could be a lot of potential in further raising limits seen in doom-plus/doom2-plus as well as other limitations such as that of v_drawpatch. This could essentially allow for more possibilities for WADs like No End in Sight, Deathless and Double Impact, putting it in the same league as Crispy Doom or something like that.

I know all of this sounds very naive, but I just got back from the hospital so I'm pretty tired and wanna talk out my ass so shhhh

Could you not then just use Crispy Doom instead?

What other limits would you like to see raised for the vanilla Doom executable then?

Yeah but I'm talking about running in DOS/DOSBox here, because I'm a pedantic piece of trash

Try a long-dead source port then.

That's why i asked my second question. What other limits do you like to see raised for the Vanilla DOS executable?

Most of the limits that Crispy Doom does if possible, minus of course the extra features or any custom code, I guess.

Does Xttl's UDoomHack not cover most of what you wish to do?

No, because since UDoomHack is based on the id anthology version of Final Doom's doom2.exe, it has issues with dehacked where in-game controls don't work (except for menus for some reason). Now, unless someone updates dehacked 3.1 to have id anthology compatibility, UDoomHack's usefulness is unfortunately very limited in its current state.

I know the earlier versions of Doom Legacy are 100% DOS compatible and Windows 9x compatible while retaining a very authentic game feel despite the raised limits and increased functionality. I unfortunately don't know where to find them anymore, but P2P Doom Legacy matches are very much possible, it was the main way of DMing back in the Doom Connector days, next to ZDaemon, CSDoom and Skulltag.

Then you may want to backport Crispy back to DOS, or perhaps use Russian Doom for DOS?

@Gokuma released a huge archive earlier this year of old Legacy betas and versions. @fraggle was kind enough to upload the entire thing to archive.org.

Here it is: Old Doom Legacy
