I created a Doom Midi, how does it sound?

Recommended Posts

I'm unable to test it myself as I don't have my laptop on hand to listen to it with the doom soundfont, I wanted to know if it sounded good. (Before you ask, I'm currently on the Family Macintosh.)

Included Below is: the .mp3 of my original GarageBand Song I made into a midi, along with the midi i created with OnlineSequencer and a sheet music created with Musescore, in a .zip file.

(If anyone finds this looking for music for a wad, just give credit. writing this for the future.)
(I will be updating the .zip with the newest version as time allows)

doom soundfont

Doom doesn't have a soundfont. Its original music was made with SC-55, but also supports OPL2&3 and Gravis. What soundfont did you designed this midi for?

Yeah sorry I just consider it the doom soundfont.

whichever one GZDoom uses by default, FluidSynth or the SC-55 or whatever

The one that comes up the most when you look up the soundtrack ._ .

I recorded this with default Microsoft GS Wavetable synth which comes with the OS since Windows 98 - no sound font can reproduce it accurately, be it sampled at a wrong sample rate then there come a lot of ringing artifacts in the high end and other nasty things.

It sounds pretty quiet, like that: https://app.box.com/s/bdmca43hjk0hba0mv35j3orzhw0zqyas

But normalized: https://app.box.com/s/qyrwvofw5yi09gkysqchrjmsoc70csf4

You can get a pretty decent replica by using a soundfont with a "sinc" interpolation turned on.

Here is the soundfont, I found it at Doomkid youtube channel: https://app.box.com/s/bucfj697tt1x3zzpbyymf7ornkjjt7sc
Also, look, you can just google something like "Midi soundfont player mac" : https://colibri-lossless.com/midi/

first one, yeah I do agree it's a bit quiet, but it does sound better than I expected. Might mess with the instruments a bit more for a bit more variety.

I completely forgot that I could just find a midi player for mac because I'm so used to having to hear it through garageband or musescore -_ -" sorry but thank you for telling me about it.

Really good track, pal!
Love it!
Perfect for a very punchy map full of trouble and difficult encounters.

Its really coold that you acchieved this with only three instruments.

Keep at it!

Thank you! I actually made a small Revision with a new Drum Track to make it a bit more Different between sections, as well as a small change to the notes toward the end to make it sound less drone-y (for lack of a better term) under ReputableDamageRevision.zip.

Edited by forgettablepyromaniac : got rid of the () note
