DoomSlayer69 Posted October 29, 2020 Hi, I'm 14 and I really enjoy Classic Doom games, I prefer them over new games like Call of Duty, I have beaten Doom 1 and 2, Doom 64 and Doom 2016. I just started my Plutonia Experiment playthrough (on UV), I heard that it's the most difficult chapter of all Classic Doom games, any tips? Thanks. 9 Share this post Link to post

But no, really, Plutonia isn't that hard by today's standards, bar a few maps. Just learn to expect/predict traps and you'll be okay. Don't waste ammo. Look for secrets. The usual Doom tips work just as well for Plutonia. After you beat Plutonia, play Plutonia 2, and then Scythe/Scythe 2, then Sunlust. After that you'll be more up to date on what's considered hard these days. Or at least what I consider to be challenging. I don't play a lot of extreme slaughter wads, so my perception might be a little off too. Also, have fun while you're young, after I reached about 18/19 I noticed my reflexes when a little south :P Edited October 29, 2020 by TheMagicMushroomMan 7 Share this post Link to post

NuMetalManiak Posted October 29, 2020 When I was 14 I also started Plutonia for the first time. If you're stuck, watch a video of how a map's played through. 0 Share this post Link to post
Deadwing Posted October 29, 2020 Plutonia is very reliant on a trap-based difficult gameplay style, which will make you die a lot in the beginning (at least for me it was like that lol). Once you get used to that style and some of the tricks it pulls, it becomes a lot more manageable and quite fun to play. Taking it slow and being aware of the traps and the environment will help a lot to deal with most of the encounters. Some maps might be more difficult to navigate and find where to go, though. In such cases, it's better to find a playthrough. 6 Share this post Link to post
TheMagicMushroomMan Posted October 29, 2020 Also, don't be afraid to savescum. You can always come back later and play it without saving every ten seconds. Never let frustration ruin your fun. 2 Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted October 29, 2020 Not gonna lie friend, you're best off playing Plutonia on Hurt Me Plenty or Hey Not Too Rough first to get a feel for it. 0 Share this post Link to post
TakenStew22 Posted October 29, 2020 Look out for Chaingunners and Arch-Viles. 2 Share this post Link to post
Andromeda Posted October 29, 2020 Plutonia relies on deploying lots of tricky traps on the unsuspecting player, which is where the notion that it's a difficult wad comes from. Saving often makes it much easier, since now you know what's gonna happen when you press that switch/grab that key/whatever and thus can come up with a strategy to deal with the monsters after reloading. 2 Share this post Link to post
xvertigox Posted October 29, 2020 As @Deadwing and other mentions traps are very common in Plutonia. Once you get a feel for that or even know the specific traps it becomes much, much easier. I'm sure you'll be able to finish it, just stick with it and take it a bit slow. 2 Share this post Link to post

Thanks. 1) Eliminate all visible chaingunners before entering a room. Chaingunners can damage you as far away as the other side of a map! Also beware of levels where you think you've killed a chaingunner, only for it to be resurrected by an Archvile hidden under a pillar, such as the ones in Map 15 of Plutonia. 2) If you see an Archvile, kill it first before all other enemies whenever possible. 3) Before killing that Archvile, also make sure that you isolate it from the group of enemies that are protecting it. This especially applies when an Archvile is surrounded by hordes of Revenants using their infamous homing missiles. 4) By following step 3, you will be able to kill Archviles much more easily and will also save ammo in not having to kill enemies resurrected by the Archvile. 5) You can also kill Archviles very quickly by hitting them with a BFG blast when you are as close to them as possible.
