KeaganDunn Posted November 3, 2020 Disclaimer, I fucking love Doom Eternal. It's the most amazing, immersive, frantic, and actually-skill-based game I've ever played. I have yet to play the Ancient Gods. This is just a little something I wanted to share and see what you think. Take anything you want into account - be it your own playstyle or specific enemies and combat encounters in the level...but don't start on the platforming, please... Personally, I believe Cultist Base is the most difficult level in the original campaign, Final Sin following second. I've played the game two times in its entirety - on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare. In both of those playthroughs, I struggled quite a bit with Cultist Base, taking me several attempts to get past most arena fights, and then after that the game remained easy for the most part. It might be because it's that awkward point where you are still upgrading quite a few things, maybe still learning the combat loop, and the game is throwing all sorts of hard-hitting enemies at you like the Mancubus and Whiplash, and a few of those encounters are in tight spaces, accompanied by fodder demons and maybe some other heavies. Final Sin isn't too bad compared to Cultist Base, but a couple fights seemed more dickish than anything, kind of like a classic Doom map with a bunch of enemy placements and not much thought put into them. The one fight with a Dread Knight, then two Pain Elementals, then a Marauder, then an Archvile - all accompanied with a shit-ton of fodder demons...that one seemed like it was just dragged out. Luckily I was still excited and motivated to keep pushing through and defeat the final boss. A sense of progression goes a long way. What do you think is the most difficult level of Doom Eternal's campaign? 1 Share this post Link to post
Martin-CAI Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) 1st run: Final Sin first, Cultist base second. 2nd+ runs: Cultist base first, Final Sin second. The reason why is because once I got used to be full equipped, it was quite hard in the second try not to dispose of everything. You start to struggle so much from monsters that were quite easy to get rid off before. Edited November 3, 2020 by Martin-CAI 0 Share this post Link to post
GraphicBleeder Posted November 3, 2020 Cultist Base if you've completed the game. On a second run you've just gotten so used to having such a big arsenal and abilities that it feels strange and foreign going back. As for a first run? Final Sin. 0 Share this post Link to post
Job Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) Laugh all you like, but I got my salad tossed so many times on that big lava canyon arena in the latter half of Exultia. You have little in the way of power ups, ammo capacity, and weapons to battle what seems to be an absurd, endless wave of arachnotrons, revenants, cacodemons and other fodder. After a while I just turned the difficulty down to get past that spot. Not fun. 0 Share this post Link to post
Serum Posted November 3, 2020 Apart from the Icon of Sin, my vote goes for the penultimate level, Urdak. That level definitely killed me the most on all 3 of my runthroughs. Cultist Base is probably a close 2nd. 0 Share this post Link to post

The last two levels were still a challenge 0 Share this post Link to post

Mr. Duk Posted November 3, 2020 Urdak BY FAR because of that stupid jumping bit where you have to shoot the green thing in mid-air. Final Sin probably has the most intense combat, but you're also pretty well-equipped at that point. So probably Cultist Base combat-wise, but Urdak overall. I overall liked DOOM Eternal as a game, but I *loathed* Urdak as a level. Super Gore Nest was my favorite level, and the middle of the game was my favorite chunk of Eternal. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bridgeburner56 Posted November 3, 2020 Cultist Base probably followed by Exultia (there are 2 fights there that I struggled with a lot). Interesting seeing Final Sin consistently mentioned. I found that level pretty easy even on my first play through. 0 Share this post Link to post
Taurus Daggerknight Posted November 3, 2020 Urdak. I know, not supposed to start with the platforming, but those jumps are some serious bull.... In general, I also found Taras Nabad to be a bit harder than other levels. Oddly enough, I didn't think Final Sin was difficult as much as it is frantic. 0 Share this post Link to post
TheEvilGrin Posted November 3, 2020 Taras Nabad for sure. You can't even see the archviles with all the banners and stuff. And there's a lot of pain elementals there too. Even Nekravol is easier. Urdak is hard too, but the way the arenas are built look more like other levels, whereas the first area of Taras Nabad is just a big hole with ledges on the side. 2 Share this post Link to post
