It's an actual word meaning "forest" which is obviously where the level takes place. However, I do not see what's so "Equestrian" about it.

I'm assuming that's in reference to the large, white, almost geological figures that are merged with landscape. They look somewhat like alien, Gigeresque horses.

Similar design in the area of Hell where the soul spheres are kept. That’s my favourite part of the game
