I think FIREBLU is pretty: Change My Mind

Recommended Posts

The only thing better than FIREBLU would be a crossover with that lovely texture and E4M2 and Map 24.

FIREBLU is certainly a unique texture (even if not a great looking texture). As TheMagicMushroomMan said, it only works well in a fire and brimstone setting and also only used in small quantity.

I really wish the texture was better looking tho. The best "Fire Blue" texture I have seen is in some screenshots of Supplice (an in-development TC for GZDoom).

If only FIREBLU looked like that.

HEY!!  Ya'all are missing the elusive 3rd frame of animation!

Also @Jimmy is the Lord of Fireblu since he has a Fireblu coffee mug.  In case you don't comprehend the significance of that...   He possesses an instance of Fireblu here in our reality and dimension!

ive heard that people think that FIREBLU is one of the ugliest textures in doom, i dont see why though, as long as it isnt used too much in one spot its a beautiful texture.

That's taste, it can't be objectively right nor wrong. I don't personally find it nice but i like how weird it looks, a bit like an anomaly from hell. Agony made use of such colors, and while it was in more subtle combinations i felt like there was some kind of homage.
id back then had an unhealthy love for deep blue and i love its implementation in Wolf3D and Spear of Destiny(less boring than grey especially since it already had concrete for miles).

FIREBLU is perfect for:

  • Hellish teleporters/portals
  • Insides of monster closets
  • Burning cracks in walls and floors
  • Power cores/reactors
  • Hellish-looking static on TV/computer screens
  • Sector portal connections (GZDoom-exclusive)
  • Door tracks
  • Large bodies of liquid
  • Entire maps
  • just slather me in that red and blue goodness MMMMMMMMM

One of the big reasons that fireblu is memed is that it kills most compression algorithms. RIP the bitrate in any stream.

I know I'm beautiful, thank you all

Spoiler

But really, Fireblu is a nice and unique abstract texture, I like how it's close to purple at distance

The only reason that most people have a bone to pick with FIREBLU in my mind is because there's an entire building made of it on Mt. Erebus which can be pretty disorienting for lots.

It's like the STARTAN textures. You have to know how to use it unless you want it to look ugly.

I never had occasion to use it  - until now...

Started this thing a few days ago  and I'm using it as the 'energy' in transfer tubes:

I kind of like it specifically because it's so ugly.

It feels so much like an old texture that I can't help but love it, like you won't see OTex making anything that looks as silly.

I find FIREBLU to be quite useful, personally. It lends itself well to niche or eccentric applications.

It is also retro as all hell.
