AtticTelephone Posted November 15, 2020 I finished Scythe with saves on UV, and I single-segmented all 3 episodes. MAP30 was the most spectacular, a map you should only play once. It was an amazing megawad. Now what should I do? I'm not done with my Ancient Aliens playthrough, and I don't plan on doing Scythe 2 anytime soon. I'm thinking that after Ancient Aliens, I'll do something like Rush to get ready for Valiant. What do you guys think? 3 Share this post Link to post
Pseudonaut Posted November 15, 2020 Those all sound like reasonable choices, though I'm not sure you need to "get ready for" Valiant, since I don't think it's significantly harder than Rush or Ancient Aliens. For me, after I finished Scythe (the first fanmade megawad that I finished), the wads I played next included Lunatic, Going Down, JPCP, and Alien Vendetta (not exactly in order, I don't remember that well.) 3 Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted November 15, 2020 Im happy for you that you finished Scythe. .................................................................... Hey, you asked me what i thought of it! Play Demonfear. 2 Share this post Link to post
Nembras Posted November 15, 2020 (edited) Incidentally, I just decided not to finish my playthrough of Scythe (UV, pistol starts). Maps 25 & 27 were rather irritating (don't ask me what makes map27 irritating, it just was for me. I want to like it, but it's no fun to play), so when "Run from it" came around, I gave up after a couple attempts at beating the gimmick, and skipped to map29. After trying that one a couple of times, I decided this wasn't the type of map that initially drew me in, and that I wasn't really playing Scythe anymore. So while I did enjoy most of it, I don't necessarily agree that all of it is amazing. A megawad that I do think is amazing is Valiant, and I second the opinion that you probably don't need any kind of preparation or warming up for it. Edit: grammar 0 Share this post Link to post

Noiser Posted November 15, 2020 (edited) Both Scythe 2 and Valiant are amazing and deserves a playthrough imo 17 minutes ago, AtticTelephone said: I did each episode without pistol starting, aka a single segmented playthrough, and I used saves. Continous run is probably the term you are looking for :-) Edited November 15, 2020 by Noiser 5 Share this post Link to post

TheMagicMushroomMan Posted November 15, 2020 (edited) I'm one of those psychopaths that thinks Scythe 2>>>Scythe. The original Scythe is actually more enjoyable when pistol starting in my opinion. 4 Share this post Link to post

Does not apply to Scythe 2 :P 9 minutes ago, Andromeda said: Hmm, I thought this was the popular opinion? I don't know, almost everyone seems to love the first Scythe. Many people specifically hate the custom enemies in Scythe 2. The Afrit never caused much trouble, but it can be annoying. Mr. X is a cheap garbage enemy and fighting him is never fun. Probably the worst custom enemy I've encountered in any wad. The last three maps of Scythe 2 (which were added in an update) pale in comparison to map27, which made for a great closing map. So there are definitely a lot of (valid) complaints about Scythe 2. Not many complaints about the first one. But the aesthetic of Scythe 2 makes it much more memorable to me. 2 Share this post Link to post
Lucky_Edie Posted November 16, 2020 Scythe 2 is much better with pistol starts, saveless and blind. 1 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, nothing more fun than having to start a thirty minute map over because of Mr. X appearing out of nowhere to kill you in a half a second! 2 Share this post Link to post
Lucky_Edie Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) I'm glad you agree. Map23 took me 8 hours. 2 Share this post Link to post

Uh, hey, I never played Scythe 2, and I only heard about two custom monsters, the Afrit and the Deathmatch marines. Could you tell me about it? 0 Share this post Link to post
Lucky_Edie Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) Mr X = DM marine. They get introduced in map 16 and the name of that map is "Mr X" 1 Share this post Link to post
