What are the best lyrics you've ever heard?

Recommended Posts

To mirror the worst lyrics thread, I'm making this, however, 1 rule. You can't mention Shine on you Crazy Diamond, it's too good to be ranked and I'm too lazy to get the link, and also it's just way too good in general. Anyways, I think that Eminem's Stan probably has some of the saddest and greatest lyrics I've heard. It's sad, and it's simultaneously a cautionary tale.

There's a reason why the term Stan is so popular. You've seen how crazy die-hard fans can get? It's just sad.

Anyways, I'd like to hear your recommendations.

I am not a big rap fan but Stan is indeed excellent lyrically.

I could sit here all day but a few come to mind.

"The Show Must Go On" by Queen. The circumstances of the recording certainly add weight, but the message is powerful regardless. That unrelenting desire to give life everything, and meet even death itself with a smile knowing you gave it all you could. "I'll face it with a grin, I'm never giving in, on with the show!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t99KH0TR-J4

Iron by Within Temptation. You hear the title and think "Huh?". Then the chorus starts - "You can't live without the fire, it's the heat that makes you strong." Brilliant.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwWE1H-5Q3s

"On the Turning Away" by Pink Floyd. Wonderfully moving, especially "Is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?" Yes, I am a bit of a softie at heart.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojf18wT_Xtk

"This is the Time" by Billy Joel. I like songs that surprise you. It sounds all a bit negative and dour, sort of sadly remembering the good past. Then the lyrics before the final chorus - "Ah but holding you close is like holding the summer sun. I'm warm from the memory of days to come."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOBwqlP-3ls

And finally, while I could pick any number of songs by Avantasia, probably this one wins. It's just such a great sentiment - "The Story Ain't Over".

The entire album of Dark Side of the Moon consistently gives me those lyrical feels, though I generally gravitate toward more gross and funny lyrics due to being inundated by "meaningful" lyrics that fall flat with me and are hard to relate to. Roger Waters knows how to keep it simple, relatable and vague, and every song on the album really resonates. Maybe I've dosed one too many times, but few things take me there lyrically better than this album.

Noteable lyric:

Spoiler

"Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say"

Gwar lyrics are always a treat, they're often crude, they make me laugh and they challenge social normality that makes me feel better about how disgusting humanity can be. My favorite line that I often think about and laugh is "When one becomes two, fuck you"

Notable lyrics from "Womb With a View":

Spoiler

Your womb is a membrane
I must penetrate
Your womb is a sewer
I grunt at the grate
Your womb is a sewer
Your womb is manure
But still, I'm worse

My life is a sinkhole
Egregious and rude
Worm-fested and filthy
Foosty and lewd
A womb with a view
When one becomes two
Fuck you
Never to matter the number of flies
Feasting the flab that bolsters your thighs
Your womb
Your breeding hive

From "Beauteous Rot":

Spoiler

You think you're beautiful but what the hell is that?
I find beauty in rolls of sweaty fat
It's not your complexion that gives me an erection
Oh no!

Your beauty makes me sick
I'd rather fuck a troll
Kick you in the head
Vomit in the hole

Face turns to snot
You used to be hot
Beauty is rot!

You spend hours smearing cream on your face
What you need is to be hit with a mace
Get tied to a horse, get dragged through the streets
Hung by your heels and pelted with beets

But still you are smearing cream on your face
What you need is to be reduced to paste
Wander the countryside blind in one eye
Sucking the dicks of dead dogs to survive

Who decides what's beautiful?
Nobody but you
I find fascination
As your guts are turned to stew

Forever titillating
A pile of rotting feet
All you are is brains and bones
A sack of rancid meat

Don't know if the best i have ever heard, but its one that resonates quite deep into me these days.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

''The Waiting''

Spoiler

[Verse 1]
Oh baby, don't it feel like heaven right now?
Don't it feel like something from a dream?
Yeah, I've never known nothing quite like this
Don't it feel like tonight might never be again?
Baby, we know better than to try and pretend
Honey no one coulda ever told me 'bout this

[Refrain]
I said yeah, yeah (Yeah, yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Chorus]
The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part

[Verse 2]
Well yeah, I might have chased a couple women around
All it ever got me was down
Then there were those that made me feel good
But never as good as I feel right now
Baby, you're the only one that's ever known how
To make me wanna live like I wanna live now

[Refrain]
I said yeah, yeah (Yeah, yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Chorus]
The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part

[Bridge]
Oh, don't let it kill you baby, don't let it get to you
Don't let it kill you baby, don't let it get to you
I'll be your bleedin' heart, I'll be your cryin' fool
Don't let this go too far, don't let it get to you

[Refrain]
Yeah, yeah (Yeah, yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Chorus]
The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part
Yeah, the waiting is the hardest part

[Outro]
Ooh
Is the hardest part
Ooh
Is the hardest part
Ooh

Another one i love a lot is this one:

R.E.M.

''Loosing my Religion''

Spoiler

Oh, life is bigger
It's bigger
Than you and you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour
I'm choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up

Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees, failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around?
Now I've said too much

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
Try, cry
Why try?
That was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream
Dream

Pretty much songs that i sing to myself whenever i'm bored walking on the streets or driving.

Amazing Poetry for sure.

Most of Lux Occulta's Forever Alone Immortal, Limbonic Art's first 3 albums, Timeghoul's releases, Ouroboros's Emanations, Immolation's Harnessing Ruin/Majesty and Decay, Thronium's Dominions of the Eclipse are some of my favorite that come to mind right now.

"Grim haunts of the heavens and hells

emerged from the cracks in the sky and the rocks.
A mob of fiends encircled me,
Through undivine ascension I was taken to the gods.

I was made to kneel
before the gods.
Their stares peeled flesh and bone,
bludgeoning my soul.
For insolence in denial
I was to make penance,
and my legacy was to grasp my kind.

On the mountaintop I was put.
An iron chain bore into the wound,
Linking my mind with the heavens above,
Forever thought was taken from us.
" Timeghoul - Rain Wound.

I never listened much to Eminem, but I do like Without Me a lot, because the tone of the lyrics are just so deliciously rude and unapologetic, I love the aggressive defiance and irreverence he displays towards his critics (including people such as his own mother). The video itself is great for the visual of him as some sort of superhero (though actually a sidekick, betraying how much power he actually has over the situation), who has to go out on emergency missions to prevent children from listening to his music, the biting visual sarcasm towards all the people upset at his provocative content, who should in reality have been paying more attention to their own children.

Now, for something much more familiar to me, here's Alice Cooper's "Pass The Gun Around", from his DaDa album:

Spoiler

Sonny wakes up in the morning feeling kinda sick
Needs a little Stoli Vodka, needs it really quick
Sees a little blood run from his eyes
Feels a little hotel paralyzed

Pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, you gotta
Pass the gun around
And throw me in the local river, let me float away

I wake up watching cartoons... the television's on
There's a couple of party balloons and all my money's gone
She was just a reason to unwind
And actually the last thing I could find

Why don't you, pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, you better
Pass the gun around
And dump me in the local river, let me float away
Float away, ah float away

Pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, why don't you
Pass the gun around
Throw me in the local river, let me float away

Sonny wakes up in the morning, there's a stranger in his bed
Someone's pounding on the hotel door, he wishes he was dead
I've had so many blackout nights before
I don't think I can take this anymore

Why don't you, pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, why don't you
Pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, we're gonna
Pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, we're gonna
Pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, you gotta
Pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, you gotta
Pass the gun around
Give everyone a shot... give everyone a shot, you gotta
Pass the gun around

Saving some time, I'll cite the opening blurb from Wikipedia about the album itself:

Quote

DaDa is the eighth solo studio album by American singer Alice Cooper, released on September 28, 1983 by Warner Bros. Records. DaDa would be Cooper's last album until his sober re-emergence in 1986 with the album Constrictor. The album's theme is ambiguous, however, ongoing themes in the songs' lyrics suggest that the main character in question, Sonny, suffers from mental illness, resulting in the creation of many different personalities. The album alludes strongly to the dadaist movement. Its cover was based on a painting by surrealist artist Salvador Dalí titled Slave Market with the Disappearing Bust of Voltaire. Produced by long-time collaborator Bob Ezrin, at the time his first production with Cooper in six years, DaDa was recorded at ESP Studios in Buttonville, Ontario, Canada.

Though I am hesitant to actually rank favorites, so I can't with honesty say that these lyrics are the best, I think they're very strong. Wikipedia makes mention here of his trouble with alcoholism, and that's something that's been widely known for years, but it's in recent times where he talks in much more detail about how he struggled with an addiction to cocaine, in combination with his alcoholism, leading to very dangerous weightloss, and erratic, unpleasant behavior which would drive away friends, family, and colleagues. He tells of how he reached his breaking point, alone in a hotel room, how he had nobody left, holding a gun to himself in tears, wishing to just end it all, until he feels the remaining sparks of his will to live, and he acts on the sudden impulse to clear his gun, throw the ammunition out the window, and flush his big bag of cocaine down the toilet, to finally crash and sleep for hours and hours and hours, checking into rehab the next day.

This period of his life strongly colored his music, Cooper himself says he pretty much doesn't remember recording the albums of this period of his life (which may partially be for the fact that he was seldom sober and it actually was a blur, and partially out of shame for things he did and said), he describes the albums as pretty good, though that Warner Bros. didn't think so, that the DaDa album terrifies him, and he's not sure of its full meaning. The character of Sonny definitely is based on many of his own experiences, however, at the least for Pass The Gun Around. The lyrics exhibiting the miseries of heavy substance abuse trying to fill a gaping hole in a man's heart, along with suicidal, possibly even homicidal urges, the act of passing said gun around likely also being a double entendre for passing around a bottle, "giving everyone a shot" as to keep the hopeless cycle going.

As a hiphop-head, Kendrick Lamar easily takes the win for me. Something off of Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, or To Pimp a Butterfly, which imo are the best 2 hiphop albums of this century thus far, lol. Bleak, heavy and creative

Edit:

Also, honorable mention to MF Doom, who has the most technically impressive wordplay I've heard. Like his bars at 1:25 in Figaro. What the fuck??????

Spoiler

When Karl Marx was a boy
He took a hard look around
He saw people were starving all over the place
While others were painting the town (buh, buh, buh)
The public spirited boy
Became a public spirited man
So he worked very hard and he read everything
Until he came up with a plan

There'll be no exploitation
Of the worker or his kin
No discrimination 'cause the color of your skin
No more private property
It would not be allowed
No one could rise too high
No one could sink too low
Or go under completely like some we all know

If Marx were living today
He'd be rolling around in his grave
And if I had him here in my mansion on the hill
I'd tell him a story t'would give his old heart a chill
It's something that happened to me

I'd say, Karl I recently stumbled
Into a new family
With two little children in school
Where all little children should be
I went to the orientation
All the young mommies were there
Karl, you never have seen such a glorious sight
As these beautiful women arrayed for the night
Just like countesses, empresses, movie stars and queens
And they'd come there with men much like me
Froggish men, unpleasant to see
Were you to kiss one, Karl
Nary a prince would there be

Oh Karl the world isn't fair
It isn't and never will be
They tried out your plan
It brought misery instead
If you'd seen how they worked it
You'd be glad you were dead
Just like I'm glad I'm living in the land of the free
Where the rich just get richer
And the poor you don't ever have to see
It would depress us, Karl
Because we care
That the world still isn't fair

I only object to Stan because it's my name and I don't want to be conflated with a bunch of obsessive stalker fans. :/ I remember a few years ago when I heard the term that I thought something along the lines of "I'm surprised it took so long for it to enter popular parlance." But yeah, it's a pretty sad song. The guy took it so personally for really minor things and Eminem's trying to calm down the guy after calling him out on his crazy shit before realizing the letter's too late.

Seven a.m., waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein' everything, the time is goin'
Tickin' on and on, everybody's rushin'
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (my friends)

Kickin' in the front seat
Sittin' in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

It's Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin' down on Friday
Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend

In more seriousness, I've really loved Front Line Assembly's "Tilt" lately.

Spoiler

A nuclear storm breaches the post
A shimmering light fades in the morning
Poisoned hearts desperate hopes
Will appear without a warning

Heavens alive, heavens alive
The sky is burning

Colors grey nothing to say
As we hide underground
Concrete bunkers don't make a sound
Nomadic flashes burn on the ground

Heavens alive, heavens alive
The sky is burning
This is the end, nobody's crying
I realize I realize
There's no returning
This is the end, we're all dying
Immortalized, immortalized
The world is burning
This is the end, nobody's crying
Immortalized, immortalized
The world is burning
This is the end, we're all dying

In your eyes I can see
How the world used to be
Fragile hearts minds and souls
Please don't let tomorrow go

This is the end, nobody's crying
Heavens alive, heavens alive
This is the end, we're all dying
I realize I realize
This is the end, nobody's crying
Immortalized, immortalized
This is the end, we're all dying
Immortalized, immortalized

Also Leæther Strip's "I Am Your Conscience":

Spoiler

Guilt will embrace your soul
With two hands around your neck
You try to scream but your throat is too dry
They give you no answers
They just stare with empty eyes
You try to sleep but you're drowning in sweat
Life has no meaning
When you're crawling to get ahead
You are the slave they will spit in your eyes
The voices inside your head
Keep telling you to prepare
You'll never know when your time has come

I am your conscience
So you better start looking at me

I will surround your dreams
I will ignore your screams

Lust will control your mind
And eat up the rest of you
There is no one left to fulfill your fantasies
You can't escape from the powers inside
You'll never see me
Never count me out
I'm in your thoughts
Like a tumor
I can destroy you
I can kill your dreams
I'm like the needle
In your hungry eyes

There's an ugly little wasel 'bout three-foot nine
Face puffed up from cryin' 'n lyin'

Perhaps it's their idea
Of an Affirmative Action Plan
To give White Trash a 'special break',
Well, they took those Jeezo-bucks and ran
To the bank! To the bank! To the bank! To the bank!

Who, in adulthood, hosts the remnants
Of papa's religious propaganda program

What if Pat gets in the White House,
And suddenly
The rights of 'certain people' disappear
Mysteriously?

Now, wouldn't that sort of qualify
As an American Tragedy?
(Especially if he covers it up, sayin'
"Jesus told it to me!")

I hope we never see that day,
In The Land of The Free
Or someday will we?
Will we?

And if you don't know by now,
The truth of what I'm tellin' you,
Then, surely I have failed somehow

Right beside the gas station? Well, somebody bought it
And on that spot they're gonna build a shop
Where we can go buy bolts and screws"

Any Tom Waits song... One of the very few musicians I can think of that can strip down the music in a song to a bare minimum and have the lyric carry the entire weight.. at an entirely different (higher) level than any hip-hopper or otherwise word-driven type of musician

@Dark Pulse Man, I forgot about the Animals album, and probably every other Pink Floyd album too. I love them all (cept DSOTM, which gets old sometimes, and also the last album which I forgot the name of, but it still has some good songs).

That's borderline heresy that you'd forget Animals.

Wow some really good lyrics mentioned here. I have many favorites myself. We could be here all year if I had to think of all of them. Here are some.

Earth Died Screaming, by Tom Waits

Well hell doesn't want you
And heaven is full
Bring me some water
Put it in this skull
I walk between the raindrops
Wait in Bug House Square
And the army ants
They leave nothin' but the bones
And the earth died screaming
While I lay dreaming of you

The Great Below, by Trent Reznor
staring at the sea
will she come?
is there hope for me
after all is said and done
anything at any price
all of this for you
all the spoils of a wasted life
all of this for you
all the world has closed her eyes
tried faith all worn and thin
for all we could have done
and all that could have been

At The Gates Of Silent Memory, by Fields of the Nephilim

Yes today life that I knew
So sick of all the people
A blind moon over to the window
Where the night has become elizium
For the sleepless souls
And our days to come
You stand with dalila
May be I'll just pass-away
Or may be I'll stay
But I feel alive with you
And I feel some kind of heaven
When I feel deep inside her
I feel some kind of heaven
Hear me
Give me some kind of heaven

So Much Is Lost, by Paradise Lost

what this seems to be, what this seems to be, is real
all of my life is changing
you're the enemy, you're the enemy, i fear
all of my life is changing, always some rearranging

so much is lost, so much disharmony
so much is lost, no voice of sympathy

Bad Bad Thing, by The Diesel Whores

I slept with my sister in nineteen-eighty-seven
I'd been dreaming of her naked since I was eleven
She'd took my hand and led me to her bedroom
And then we lay on her sheets and kissed with the lights on
Quivering with fear she bent to my ear
and whispered
We're doing a bad bad thing
We're doing a bad thing

Entombment Of A Machine, by Job for a Cowboy

It bleeds! It breathes!
What stands before us, is not a machine
It breathes, it will bleed and it will dream!
Its body is covered in hundreds of wires.
and a mouth that attempts to speak, it attempts to lie
Only murmurs, collapse from its jaws.

(The last one reminds me of the Cyberdemon)

Spoiler

[Verse 1]
You walk into the room
With your pencil in your hand
You see somebody naked
And you, you say, "Who is that man?"
You try so hard
But you don't understand
Just what you will say
When you get home

[Refrain]
Because something is happening here
But ya' don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

[Verse 2]
You raise up your head
And you ask "Is this where it is?"
And somebody points to you and says
"It's his"
And you say "What's mine?"
And somebody else says "Well, what is?"
And you say, "Oh my God, am I here all alone?"

[Refrain]
But something is happening
And ya' don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

[Verse 3]
You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says "How does it feel to
Be such a freak?"
And you say, "Impossible"
As he hands you a bone

[Refrain]
And something is happening here
But ya' don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

[Verse 4]
You have many contacts
Among the lumberjacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To all give a check
To tax-deductible charity organization
Aw, you've been with the professors
And they've all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have
Discussed lepers and crooks
You've been through all of
F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
You are very well read
It's well known

[Refrain]
But something is happening here
And ya' don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

[Verse 5]
Well the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan"

[Refrain]
And you know something is happening
But ya' don't know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?

[Verse 6]
Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word "Now"
And you say, "For what reason?"
And he says, "How?"
And you say, "What does this mean?"
And he screams back "You're a cow
Give me some milk or else go home"

[Refrain]
And you know something's happening
But ya' don't know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?

[Verse 7]
Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There oughtta be a law
Against you comin' around
You should be made
To wear earphones

[Refrain]
'Cause something is happening
And ya' don't know what it is
Do you, Mr. Jones?

Spoiler

In her place, one hundred candles burning
Her salty sweat drips from her breast
Her hips move and I can feel what they're sayin', swayin'
They say the beast inside of me is gonna get ya, get ya, yeah...

Yeah...

Black lipstick stains her glass of red wine
I am your servant, may I light your cigarette?
Those lips move, yeah, I can feel what you're sayin', prayin'
They say the beast inside of me is gonna get ya, get ya, yeah...

I beg to serve, your wish is my law
Now close those eyes and let me love you to death
Shall I prove I mean what I'm sayin', beggin'
I say the beast inside of me is gonna get ya, get ya, yeah...

Ah...
Let me love you to...
Ah...
Let me love you to...
Death
To death...

Ah...
Let me love you to...
Ah...
Let me love you to...
Death

Am I good enough...
For you?
Am I good enough...
For you?
Am I...ah...
For you?
Am I....ah...
For you?

Am I good enough
For you?

Okay last one:

Spoiler

Cold concrete apartments
Rise up from wet black asphalt
Below them a few carcasses
Of the long-gone age of privacy

It takes a scary kind of illness
To design a place like this for pay
Downtown's an endless generic mall
Of video games and fast food chains

One by one, the little houses are bricked up and condemned
A subtle hint to move before the rats move in
This could be anywhere
Could be anywhere, everywhere

Those new kids at school seem cool
But dad says not to talk to them
Stick to your old friends, they're not our kind
So now there's lots of fights

So many people I know
Come of age tense and bitter-eyed
Can't create so they just destroy
Come on, let's set someone's dog on fire

Empty plastic culture slum, suburbia is a war zone now
Sprouting the kinds of gangs we thought we'd left behind
This could be anywhere
Could be anywhere, everywhere

Could be anywhere
Could be everywhere
Could be anywhere

Kids at school are taking sides
Along color and uniform lines
My dad's gone and bought a gun
He says he's fed up with the crime in this town

This could be anywhere
This could be everywhere
This could be anywhere
This could be everywhere

This could be anywhere
This could be everywhere
This could be anywhere
This could be everywhere

I hope I'm gone before it explodes

I linger late at night
Waiting for the bus
No amount of neon jazz
Could hide the oozing vibes of death

My dad's a vigilante now
He's bringing home these weird-ass friends
Like the guy who fires blanks at his TV
When Kojak's on

Or the guy who shows off his sub-machine gun to his sixteen year old daughter's friends
Whose sense of pride and hope is being in the police reserve
This could be anywhere
Could be everywhere, could be anywhere, everywhere

This could be anywhere
This could be everywhere
This could be anywhere
This could be everywhere

Everywhere!

But we all deep down inside the song with the greatest lyrics ever is this ;)

Ah yes, who can forget that famous hit "This video is not available" by chart topping hard rockers "Video unavailable". I loved them when I was a kid.

Might be a region related issue. It's Miserlou by Dick Dale. Great song, though the lyrics are questionable. "Hup, hup, Hawww", while clever, is quite offensive where I come from.

Son, I'm 30
I only went with your mother 'cause she's dirty
And I don't have a decent bone in me
What you get is just what you see, yeah
I see it so I take it freely
And all the bad piss ugly things I feed me
I never help or give to the needy
Come on and see me

Here's another one that might make you think, for entirely different reasons.

Underrated, IMO. And well worth the listen. Legendarily it's the song that broke the group up as Mike Love couldn't understand what the lyrics of that last part ("Over and over / the crow cries uncover the cornfield / over and over / the thresher and hover the wheat field") meant, apparently thought it was a reference to drug culture, and the guy who wrote it (Van Dyke Parks) basically didn't know what they meant either (and possibly was also sick of Love haranguing him over it). See if you can catch the very subtle rap dropped during the second "Iron Horse" segment!

Also remembered another real good one. A band that's talked about a bit less. Why?

I uh, have many song lyrics that I really love just because how strong they can convey certain feelings, so I will post two on Russian which I really love and always makes me feel a weird sadness or melancholy, yet I still listen to them.

When you play the games though, this does not hit like a car anymore, it hits like a damn truck. (At least, the second song so far, because the first one is from something of the CN Server, not Global.)

And then there is Bury the Light from Devil May Cry 5 which makes you want to wreak havoc upon everything.
