Does Doom 2016s Crucible belong to the Dark Lord?

Some thoughts:

• In Doom 2016, the helix stone bears the Slayers mark and reveals the Crucible (demonic Crucible) to the Slayer.
• In Doom Eternal, a street prophet says, "they fear the mark of the beast", which probably refers to the Slayer. Deag Ranak says, before the Slayer kills him,  "...the...the...the...Beast...does he...hehe...not seek enhanced power? Gifts to aid him in his...noble conquest...perhaps in return for my-".
• In TAG 1, the (current) Dark Lord is revealed to look like the Slayer and also bears the Slayers mark.

 

So the Dark Lord and the Slayer bear the same mark. But the Slayers Crucible is the one of Taras Nabad. Maybe "the demonic Crucible" is the Crucible of the Dark Lord?

In my opinion the Doom Slayer is a clone, a avatar or an emanation of sorts of the Dark Lord and so the first is non-human (alien) or some sort of a primordial human (sg1-like)

There's also the unexplained "Kadingir Tree Prophecy" from 2016 to consider that speaks about the demonic Crucible, among a few other things:

 

Quote

"The power held within the Crucible will punish man-born and demon kin alike. It will crush the divide. It will corrupt all realms. It will create the monster. It must never be found."

 

"Could he be demon kin, spawned from the loin of a grotesque infidel? Yet, the seal of the heretic binds him. His origin is as dark as his coming."

 

"Yet even as the Doom Slayer revels in the spoils of his war, another shall rise from the fires: a dark priest consumed by the Crucible. And even the Doom Slayer shall weep in his shadow."

 

"The heretic-turned-apostle Olivia, birthed of the dawn of our resurrection, by her hand we cross the divide. And for her tribute, she shall be granted the form of the Dread Widow."

 

The first quote describes a terrible power for the demonic Crucible, but both Doom Eternal and The Ancient Gods Part 1 haven't expanded upon this yet. If the sword belongs to the Dark Lord, we may yet see this part of the prophecy fulfilled. However, it would imply that the demons (or whoever is speaking through the Tree) is unaware of the Dark Lord's connection to the demonic Crucible considering they seem to think the weapon is a bad omen for Hell. Then again, the Dark Lord hasn't been seen in ages so it's possible that the demons have forgotten that part of history - although one would think that the Dark Lord would just remind his servants. The demons are aware of the sword anyways since they have the Hell Guard protecting it in the Necropolis, unless those are just an automated defense and no other demon could reach the Crucible's arena to learn of its existence. Not sure what "the monster" part of the quote could be referring to. Perhaps a Firstborn Titan like Maligog will arise from the demonic Crucible, giving the Slayer an excuse to reforge his Crucible for Part II?

 

The second quote is interesting because it seems to almost foreshadow the Slayer's connection to the Dark Lord.

 

The third quote seems to be unfulfilled or maybe it's not. It could be referring to Hayden and his obsession with Argent Energy (consumed by the Crucible?) that ultimately led him to become Transfigured in opposition to the Slayer. But that doesn't seem like a satisfactory answer, since "from the fires" implies it's this entity is supposedly a demon, "a dark priest" doesn't seem to describe the Seraphim, and the Doom Slayer doesn't seem too bothered about things. If the demonic Crucible belongs to the Dark Lord however, I don't see how anyone else can fulfill this quote for Part II if Hayden didn't already.

 

The fourth quote just refers to the Spider Mastermind from 2016.

One potential issue is the voice for the narrator of the Kadingir Tree. You can hear the voice here. It's pretty distorted and quiet so it's difficult to tell if this narrator is the same as the one in the Slayer Testaments. The one in the Slayer Testaments is the same voice that speaks to Olivia, presumably the Dark Lord as the voice actor Piotr Michael is shared across both games, although under different names. In 2016, he was the "Demonic Voice" and in Doom Eternal he plays the "Dark Lord" - but presumably he's supposed to be playing the same character. If the voice in the Kadingir Tree is meant to be coming from the Dark Lord though, then it implies that the demonic Crucible doesn't belong to him since it appears that the narrator is afraid of the Crucible's power and declares it must never be found. However, the voice actor could just be playing a different character for the Tree Prophecy since his voice seems distorted from usual and Piotr has voiced other characters in both games already anyways (UAC Guard, Origin Voice, Sentinel King, etc.).

 

The real question is whether the Prophecy is actually supposed to be part of the story still. Eternal doesn't seem to mention it at all and the demonic Crucible itself isn't doing much so far. The above quotes could've just been a hidden easter egg for 2016 and not future story set-up. I personally think the demonic Crucible belongs to the Dark Lord, so we may see the above prophecy fulfilled in Part II. In any case, the prophecy is something interesting to consider when speculating about the demonic Crucible.

Who knows though. Since Slayer broke the Father's Life Sphere, took the Dark Lord's, and then defeated and nearly killed the Seraphim, I feel that the Seraphim has enough "justification" to become evil and swear to destroy the Slayer for himself. And since he's most associated with the Demonic Crucible, most likely he is the "dark priest" so to speak. Because if "dark priest" refers to the Hell Priests, all 3 of them are now headless corpses by now
