PRBoom+ possible friction sector bug?

Calling all Boom/PRBoom+ experts. Are there any known bugs/mapping quirks that will cause a friction sector that's supposed to slow a player down, to actually speed a player up?

 

I have control sectors in my map that are 72 units wide with action 223 applied. These cause the player to slow down as expected. However recently one playtester entered these friction sectors and actually sped up. Are there any known circumstances/mapping quirks where this can happen? I believe they were using glboom-plus.
