What do the different like / reaction buttons mean?

Why is there now four different ways to like a post, sorry if this is a stupid question . 😔

I'll vager a guess the original system went from 🦄 to 🐖 and  instead of removing it for whatever reason ling added 4 similar orbs.

 

Also I am an oldhat who prefers writing a post saying thank you instead of just pressing a button.

i use those 4 orbs as ways of rating a post. soulsphere is the standard like, megasphere means like a lot, and invul means it kicks ass. not sure about the blursphere yet, i just use it for picture-heavy posts.

Well, this is how I interpret that when I saw it. I thought maybe in the future these 4 would have different meanings, but it's problematic to "fix" the given ones, but I guess as long as they remain positive, everything should be fine.

I just picked my favorite one to like posts with, so I like posts with the invulnerability. A couple times I've gone with a different one (blur sphere, mostly) as a joke of sorts, but I stick to my invul.

I guess I can see why a "written like" might be more precise and whatnot, but at the same time the "likes" keep threads a lot more readable, because you don't need to scroll past several "I agree with XY one-liner" kind of posts as much. Also likes make it easier to keep track of what people agree with since you get a number, and at times even a banner.

 

That said, I like likes, and if you like likes as well, you might as well like this post, because this post likes likes. :P

Sorry, I originally interpret that as Pirx said, but I don't use it like that. Also, I don't think this is very obvious because no one knows the "correct answer" except probably someone like Linguica came in and say it. Now everyone is just making assumption.

Soulsphere: Nothing special, other than the current banner.

Megasphere: Automatically hidden from Memfis.

Invul Sphere: Grants the poster 15 months of immunity to the 'all alerts sound like revenants waking up' days. 

Partial Invisibility: Attempting to quote this post will randomly quote a post nearby.

It does. Especially on the MAYhem threads, judging by AD-79's and Breezeep's posts on HAK3180's thread, which is a bit of a problem when there's a deadline.

I guess it depends on what is getting the likes, but I can see when and why just getting a few reactions might feel underwhelming. I wonder if actual discussions have decreased in quantity in general since likes have become a thing or if that's maybe just a phase of sorts.

I dislike this multiple orb shit to be honest - I don't get the point, is it in case you like a post, but only a little? Or perhaps you want to convey a medium amount of 'likeage' with a megasphere? The gradient fucks with me. It's exactly like giving a post a 'star rating' which is just bizarre. I never give anything but soulspheres, I don't want to rate how much I like something, it defeats the purpose of simply having a "like" button in that your level of likeage almost seems to warrant an explanation.. "Why is this only a soulsphere's worth of likeage?!"

 

To me, the whole point of a like button is simplicity, conveying a message to a poster with the ease of a single click. What's worse, in your notifications, it just says "X reacted to a post" in a very generic way. It doesn't even tell how how they reacted which further pushes the point that multiple reactions are poopy. On top of all that, I can no longer like posts with my mobile phone, as touching the soulsphere just makes the other spheres appear without any way to select them.

 

I don't know how I managed to stretch such a minor thing into a post this long. Still, the multiple reaction stuff just seems weird to me.

Actually, it was worth somewhere between an invisibility and a megasphere, but using banker's rounding rules, I chose to react with an invisibility.
