Just curious, how many of you heard the Ultimate Doom radio ad when it was released?

I'm talking about the mp3 advertisement for the Ultimate Doom that you can download from the Doom section on John Romero's page.

/Me thinks it's teh cool.

Groovy. Sound like a Resident Evil ad. The announcer even sounds just like Chris Redfield. :P

I could have swore that I've heard the ad before... a few years back... its vague, but I swear I've heard it before... Either that, or I've been inhaling too much of Immoral Conduct's gas grenades there... Woo!

Well, I never heard it at first, but I did get the mp3 from the new doom section of rome.ro from the doomworld headline. RARARARAR!! Crazy!

I never heard the radio add, but I do remember seeing a video ad for one of the doom games. It was showing in a games shop near me (Electronic Boutique???). I remember it had short snippets of action from the game (blowing away imps, that kind of thing) furiously cut with screens of biblical looking texts and pumping music. At least that's how I remember it (I stood watching for quite a while). Anyone else remember that ad?

I also remember pre-release magazine ads with a slogan that was something like "prepare to meet thy Doom".

I have a copy of this old British magazine (PC Zone, I think), which has this teaser-ad for UD. It's basically the Doom logo laying in a patch of white flowers, with the the text underneath: "Whatever happened to peace, love and understanding?" Mmmm, cheese.

It started off as eye dee software, standing for "In Demand" (play Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons), but somewhere along the line everyone and themselves started pronouncing it id.

Yeah, I even think it is supposed to be written without capital first letter.

I remember they wrote that somewhere. Perhaps in one of the Commander Keen help screens.

Funny, I always thought it was iD because they wanted their ID tag to stand out above the rest. :P Well, it is standing out above the rest thankfully. :)

I remember seeing a controversial magazine ad, saying "GO TO HELL! (You deserve it)"

And I need ideas for this spoof!

“There’s something friggin’ stupid coming through the portal! The newbies have gone berserk!!” then the doom 3 forums simply vanished from the sky.

That's what I thought too. I was pretty suprised when I listened to the ad.

It's written in the Wolfenstein 3D hint manual. (along with 4 reasons why they named themselves that)

The first time I heard the "real" pronounciation was when I downloaded and watched a video showing some stuff from Q3A (about a year before the game was released) - it was an ad for an Intel Pentium (Pentium 3 perhaps?), "demonstrating" how well it would run "the upcoming Quake 3 Arena from id software".

I thought the ad was amazing. To me, it captured what Doom was to me then, and still is now, provided I'm in the right mindset. now I gotta hear it every time before I play Doom to get in the right mindset ;)

Heh, you too eh?
Well, before hearing this ad, I always read the Doom backstory before I leapt into the fray. Now I'm gonna read the backstory and listen to the ad before I go forth to kick some demon butt.
