I've been locked down into grunge lately, so trying to remember what I had considered the best 5 back in the day is difficult.

1. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
2. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
3. Alice in Chains - Dirt
4. Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
5. Megadeth - Rust in Peace

Fuck it, the actual list:

1. Alice in Chains - Dirt
2. Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
3. Pearl Jam - Vs.
4. Nirvana - In utero
5. Kerbdog - On the Turn

Grunge all the way, my brain is already severely damaged.

I'll consider this thread as a top 5 classic rock/heavy metal to avoid a bit of a mental struggle of putting out a top 5 by not going through extreme metal or other sub shit.

1. Judas Priest - Stained Class

2. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

3. Mercyful Fate - Melissa

4. Angel Witch - Angel Witch

5. Witchfinder General - Death Penalty

Damn, lots of good stuff in here. I'm also fickle, but for now, I'm going to say...

1: Rush - Signals

2: Genesis - Selling England By The Pound

3: Alice In Chains - Dirt

4: Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

5: Metallica - Master of Puppets

... you know what, let's make this a top ten because why not.

6: Ween - Quebec

7: Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

8: Yes - Close to the Edge

9: Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

10: Ghost - Prequelle (practically the only modern band that I like!)

... and because I'm crazy, some honorable mentions: Sheer Heart Attack by Queen, Brain Salad Surgery by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Animals by Pink Floyd, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son by Iron Maiden, Worship Music by Anthrax, October Rust by Type O Negative, Sailing the Seas of Cheese by Primus, Obsolete by Fear Factory, Angel Dust by Faith No More, and as has been said already, Rust In Peace by Megadeth is still a classic. And there's probably even more I could list. This is... kind of my wheelhouse in music, lol.

Animals and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida are such underrated albums.

Got to be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
Then moving in silently down wind and out of sight
You got to strike when the moment is right, without thinking

I almost put Deep Purple's Machine Head instead of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, both really great albums for different reasons. Animals is just a classic, I probably listen to that and Meddle most often when in the mood for Floyd.
