Freedoom-ified Doom Alpha Content?

I've always had this idea floating around in my head about making Freedoom equivalents of Doom alpha stuff (machine gun, rifle, probjectile, blob, etc.). Here's what I keep thinking:

 

Rifle: Before the pistol, there was a rifle in the alpha that functioned as the player's starter weapon. I imagine the Freedoom equivalent would be some kind of sniper rifle/DMR with a scope. Oh, and also a bayonet as well.

 

Machine Gun: Much like how the rifle was the pistol's predecessor, the MP40-esque machine gun was the automatic weapon before being replaced with the chaingun. I was thinking the Freedoom version would be an MAT 49/TEC-9-like SMG with a drum magazine.

 

I'll probably edit this post with more ideas. I just wanted to share my ideas around.

Freed∞m as a project has so many weapons that have been replaced, or proposed but never included in the first place, or sketched but never completed beyond a couple of frames, Doom just pales in comparison in that respect. Some stuff is probably lost altogether because the images were uploaded to a file hosting site that went down or deleted old accounts like ImageShack.

 

I definitely remember several different Super Shotgun versions, some complete or near complete, posted here in the forums, which were never submitted to the repository.

There was definitely one that I found on here and enjoyed quite a bit. I keep it on my autoload actually. Same with some of the more proposed handdrawn weapons like that shotgun and plasma. I did enjoy those takes as well.

But there's still a lot missing from the attic unfortunately.

I think you guys are misunderstanding me. I said making Freedoom equivalents of things from the Doom alpha.

Misunderstanding? When I made a comment about unused Freed∞m weapons, I wanted to imply that the development of Freed∞m is vastly different compared to Doom. Freed∞m has its own alpha versions that are nothing like Doom alphas.

 

Strictly speaking, there is no need to make counterparts to Doom's alpha weapons because it is completely outside the scope of the project. Or if you want to make them for some reason, they can be anything you'd like them to be. You can take a look at how the actual weapon sprites changed between Freed∞m releases to get the idea.

 

It seems from your first post that you're proposing to imagine what a Freed∞m alpha might have looked like if its development were similar to that of Doom. But its development was not similar, and Freed∞m has its own alphas as mentioned above. Your thought experiment is not impossible but it has absolutely no limitations - you can imagine those alpha stages any way you want. I'm sure if you make a sprite set for a sniper rifle or an MP-40 for Freed∞m no one would object to that.
