Compared to ads on traditional FM radio or rabbit ears TV of yore youtube ads are effing amazing. It's really quite awesome how good the ads are. What is your experience of youtube ads?

Ads are designed to annoy you. On YT where you just want to see the content, any hurdle is just dumb.

Esp. the questions form one.

Also don't lie that these ads are good and amazing. Unless you are in marketing of work for Youtube nobody believes that.

Are you referring to ordinary ads that show up on monetised videos or when a video is sponsored and the ad is created by the YouTuber themselves? If it's the latter, than I can attest to Caddicarus, Jay Foreman and Internet Historian being solid examples of how to make a sponsored bit entertaining. As for the former? They're no different from what you see on television and I never see them thanks to Adblock.

Are you referring to the ads that unexpectedly pop up in the start, middle or end of videos? Yeah they're a nuisance.

I find sponsorships interesting at times if they somehow integrate them into the content, clearly stating it's an ad but not stopping the pacing just for it. But that's rare, often I start hearing about audible, raid shadow legends or some earphones etc I can't be bothered and just skip the segment.

Sometimes I get ads that are highly relevant for what I search for, and I watch them until the end. Unfortunately, they end up being the only ones on that topic, so on later videos I get them again and again.

Usually however I get the same stupid ads I get on TV, for stupid stuff I don't care about, such as chips or gambling. Most of them are sequences of two 6-second unskippable ads, sometimes (yikes) even a single 15 second unskippable (!) one. But hey, I get to watch YouTube for free, which also nags me to buy its premium plan. For what? Just to get rid of ads and listen to videos in the background on the phone? No thanks.

Also, I live with the ads, they're a legit compromise to have free content. Ad blockers are for freeloaders who can't handle little annoyances for a good cause.

Ads just break up a video and unload any part of the video I had loaded which reeeeaaalllllyyy sucks for me with my bad internet connection. I should get an adblock one of these days but I am lazy and will instead not.

I just try to ignore ads as much as possible, none of em are useful to me, and the only time I don't turn off the audio when an ad comes up is if it's some skit as part of a sponsor in some video (and even then I'll feel a little annoyed that I'm being advertised to).

I have watched a lot less Youtube in recent years and tend to avoid watching videos over 8 minutes long or on channels with less than 1000 subscribers. The ads are crap mainly focusing on sports betting and junk food and I also don't like how Youtube removed the yellow markers from it's videos.

Haven't seen a single ad on YouTube in about 2 years.

God bless Brave and its built-in ad blocker. /shill

Occasionally there's some interesting ad, which however, even if I do happen to watch fully out of curiosity, I would never watch again (esp. if it's a long one). They really need to enhance their repetition patterns or something....

As for undisturbed watching, well, for me there's JDownloader -> USB stick -> couch -> Watch on TV, esp. for longer stuff. Best of both worlds ;-)

I've never liked them, though I agree sometimes some ads are amazing (in a wrong way), most ads they put are just pornhub clone and tiktok, which fucking annoying to me

I will never watch adverts*. If they are unskippable and the adblocker doesn't nuke them, then I'll not bother with the content. So be it.

* Well except ones on TV with nice cats in them.

I don't think youtube deserves to make me sit through ads after the shitty practices they have done over the years, so I'm fine with blocking their ads out with ad blockers.

I'm already annoyed by the "Are you still watching this video?". Kinda amused by youtube playing me the same 3 hour cyberpunk techno mix all the time, it's playing there now and probably is the next after the next. I'd be semi ok with ads in the beginning of a video, but not in the middle of it, especially if it's just a short one song and not a several hour mix. So I have adblock.

In one or two finnish online tv services, you can pay to see more content, but there's still ads, you have to pay a little bit more to get rid of them.

I abhor ads in general and YT is no exception.

Bless the ad blockers. Those are saviors.

Guys, have you heard about Raid: Shadow Legends?

Let me tell you about Raid: Shadow Legends.

Yes, yes, I know, my channel is all about knitting by the fireplace. But now I'm inspired to knit this character from Raid: Shadow Legends!

YouTube gives you the option to pay to not see any ads right? Well, then content creators started putting ads IN the videos, so that ad-free experience they promise is misleading.

Now people have found ways to bypass these in-video ads like they’ve done with Adblockers. This cycle of YouTube and content creators trying to find more and more ways to inject advertising into their videos while their viewers find loopholes to get out of them, even just simply fast forwarding them. Yes, I *understand* why they add these ads to their videos. I don’t need a lecture on how they need to make a living too and all that ass-kissy BS that is brought up every time someone says they dislike these types of ads.

AVGN/Cinemassacre are a great example of why I do not agree with in-video ad promotions. He spends a good 2 minutes promoting some shit that the AVGN character would likely (literally) shit on. It feels out of place and forced, and it takes a good chunk of the video too. I remember when people like AVGN didn’t have to resort to crap like that to make a living. If they need these ads to survive now but didn’t before then something is wrong with YT, not me for not wanting to deal with these annoying ads.

I can deal with common in video ads that pop up, yet to me still annoying, but I can deal with it.

What pisses me off the most is when an ad pops up in the middle of a song.. like wtf?

Richard Strauss - Also sprach Zarathustra plays in the background...

Let me introduce you to SponsorBlock. It's a crowdfunded thing where people tag sponsored segments into a global database, then your browser marks that segment and doesn't play it/skips it by default. Worked for me pretty well so far, even though the model means smaller content creators might not have an entry by the time you're watching a fresh video. Oh and you can whitelist your fav creators if you care about that.
