The BMFG Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) so my friend @Reelvonic had THIS sent onto his wad hosting site : http://ftp.vanony.net/wads/doom2/ab596473.zip its some creepy ass doom wad with Japanese all over it creepy as imagery and the weirdest of things inside the wad on slade. we tried looking through the .txt file. the name was a bunch of numbers. we put the numbers through google and we got japanese. we translated the japanese and we got "Skull Harassment" i know. weirdest fucking name ever. this wad is 20 years old originally made in 2001 and the last update to it was 2004. its got a lot of custom textures and if you look in slade even more weird things. like if you iddqd doomguy turns into some sort of monk. and doomguys death face is changed HEAVILY the cyberdemon sprites are fucked up. the health bonuses have japanese on them that we cant try to translate no matter what we do. and one of the health bonus sprites has a smiley face on it. the .txt says the story is you are going to kill yourself but first you need to take as many people as you can (which sounds like some sort of plan a emo kid would make). on the intro image there's a hand drawn image of some cartoon guy with a colorful hat and and blood coming of his eyes and mouth a carrot on there for no fucking reason at all and a butterfly. the biggest questions we have are 1. who is skull harassment 2. is he even still alive 3. if he is not then who is making it resurface 4. what is the purpose of this 20 yr old doom wad resurfacing on wad sharing sites like vanony and wadarchive 5.is this gonna be some deep ass rabbit hole ( by god i hope it is not) 6. what are the other 2 wads he made that are listed in the .txt for the wad we need some good doomworld investigators. if you find any good info then please comment on this thread so everyone can know Edited May 17, 2021 by The BMFG 7 Share this post Link to post

roadworx Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) it appears to be a very amateurish wad, presumably created by an edgy teen who was bored one day (hence the swastika), made with the sole intention of being creepy. my guess is that they tried to upload it to /newstuff, it got rejected, they forgot about it, and then they rediscovered it on an old flash drive or something and uploaded it to a few places for shits and giggles. either that or reelvonic made it and is just fucking with you. either way i'm doubtful that the other wads are ever gonna be found, they're probably long gone i assume that any japanese in there is just translated and not by a fluent speaker, as if it were, i'd suspect that you'd be seeing actual kanji/katakana/hiragana in the text file. whoever made it likely just ran "skull harassment" through a translator and tried to put it into the doomworld txt file generator, and it spat out html entities in response 7 Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) Well, the BMFG messaged me asking about it, so I gave the wad a cursory glance under the hood and this is what I found Quote Firstly, I have found that this wad cannot be older than 2017 - I say this for two reasons: One, the copyright section of the text file uses the new format (Creative Commons) that was introduced by Linguica in 2017, prior to 2017 we used the old copyright format. The second reason is that the wad uses PNG format lumps inside, and most ports didn't support that until after 2010 (certainly not as far back as 2004). This definitely has "creepypasta that was made for the fun of it" vibes, and even despite the discrepancies that date it much later than 2004, I always find little Doom investigations like this to be enjoyable! 10 Share this post Link to post
