fox holes and trenches

Recommended Posts

being from a different part of the world i brought some good knowlege over seas. in the no sale under 18 post i wrote about a bunker, more or less, in which we hung out and stored a large stash of porn mags. however as a child i was always out side and i loved to dig. not only that i had a rather high problem solving intellengence compared to the children i was with. so at a young age i knew how to dig a fox hole/trench and how to stay hidden. i am not sure if i learned this from a relitive or started on my own, i am sure both were factors. I never liked planes and fled if i heard one, either under some structure like the hen house or one of my fox holes.

playing the fun american game 'man hunt' was natural for me. even better at night. people wanted me on their team because i was master of the game. i knew how to hind and how to escape or capture. we even used much of the loacal area. anyway over that time we made some impressive hide outs.
a old dust feild was a good place for the game. it was no longer farmed and constrution for pipes left debris, dirt piles and deep unused holes. I made a trench about 9 feet long useing 2 small holes, just dug the space between them. you could get all the way down. to make it better we found some wood and made an overhang over most of it. at an end it was left uncovered to allow entrance. we covered the wood with dirt and dead/dying bushes. it was hard to see even if u were right up near it. we played paintball with it once and it was a great place to snipe people from. only me and 3 other knew about it and we told them at the end of our match.

anyway what forts, trenches, treehouses and bases have u created when u were kids

I can remember that me and my friends used to hang out in a 'ninjabase' we created. We most have looked like a bunch of nerds with our masks and plastic samuraiswords :|

Other than that, there are still lots of bunkers from the second worldwar located in forrests in my region, but we never used them as a playground. In fact, those bunkers look eerie and spooky. So I don't really consider it a fun place to hang out.

Only snow forts, and I never managed to make a complete one, but I always dreamed of making this 1337 treehouse fortress thingy (I loved to climb trees - still love to climb).

Sadly, I never had the possibilities of building even the smallest treehouse because either my parents wouldn't let me (afraid that I'd fall down and break my neck - perfectly understandable) or because there weren't the "raw" materials needed. And later, my parents cut down all our trees, both suitable and not-so suitable, so building a treehouse, let alone climb a tree, was out of the question, boohoooo! :-(

Never really had a good game at that because there weren't really any good places to play that game near my house, but I was good at finding some pretty strange hiding spots - being the small kid that I was, I could cram my ass down in really tight spaces and I used that to my advantage a lot.
During my time in the army I rediscovered my 1337 hiding capabilities - during a camouflage excercise, my platoon leader went up and stood only inches away from where I was lying on the ground while giving feedback to some other grunt - he just didn't see me until I made a movement when he was just about to step on me :-P

Anyway, my favorit kid's game back in the day was tag - I just loved to go "hunting" for people and I ended up being pretty good at it, maybe too good for my own fun, since my "hunting" sessions ended up only lasting a few seconds, because I would swiftly tag another person. Running away from people was boring imo, I wanted to be the hunter, so I tended to just let the other people tag me.
