... to start a megawad similar ?

Hi everyone, this is my 1st post here.

As mentionned in the post title, i just finished BTSX 1 & 2 and i LOVED them. Very pleasant and it was the first time i finished a megawad. Have you any ideas for a megawad which quality is pretty much the same ?

Sorry if my english is weird, it's not my mothertongue.

Thank You !

Hello both of you

@Mr Masker: i'm looking for a "fantastic" universe, some mazzy maps but not too difficult and cryptic way to find a key i guess ?

@Silhou3tte: thank you, i'll take a look :)

If it was Back To Saturn X's particular style of gameplay & encounters that entertained you, then you might start by checking the authors' list and seeing what else these mappers worked on. For starters, several of the people who worked on BTSX have also contributed to Syringe* and to Doom 2 In Spain Only.

If it was the otherworldly aesthetic & mood which grabbed you, then maybe give Tangerine Nightmare* a shot.

*not megawads, but still similar enough to be worth a mention.

@head_cannonwell i guess it's both of those elements, to be honnest i discovered doom like 25 years ago when my elder brother buy DooM on PS1 and i never manage to finish it, nor 1, 2 or others "commercial" doom. BTSX is the only one i manage to finish and it was f**king great !

BTSX is kind of hard to compare to other wads due to its unique atmosphere/music/use of color, but there are other wads with the same great map design! Try any one of the DBP wads, guaranteed quality.

You might enjoy TNT: Revilution. Both map design and combat design has surprisingly a lot of btsx-influence. There is also lot of new textures in forms of rusty techbases. This is an essential wad to play.

Another map pack that comes to mind is Mechadon's Counterattack. These are large adventurous maps just like his contributions to btsx-series (particularly Unstable Journey). You'll notice his trademark style immediately. Very enjoyable wad.

I would also recommend UAC Ultra. 2010 wad also with also new texture pack. Rusty techbases and rocky terrain of Mars. Nothing too challenging in gameplay, but very atmospheric and fun.

BTSX is started out with a heavy dose of influence from darkening e2 (although one must turn off music with that wad...)

Then as others have said, looking up the authors involved is an easy way to find some gems

e.g. Ed Cripps has quite a few, most famous is probably putrefier

or skillsaw's vanguard/valiant/heartland/anything really

or jimmy/tarnsman/etc adventures of square

or xaser/n20 magnum opus NEIS

and the list of authors and works goes on, it's a fun rabbit hole to jump in to

TNT : Revilution & Mechadon's Counterattack won't run on my source port :/ (Doom Retro, yeah i need xInput as i play with a wireless Xbox 360 controller, yeah you can kick my ass haha)

But UAC Ultra run and i liked it, i definitely play this one too !
