Should there be a "List of Compilation PWADs" for the DoomWiki, to provide information on old 1994-1995 level compilations for DOOM I (maybe even DOOM II), and their original PWAD sources?

Recommended Posts

For many years, I've wanted to solve the mystery regarding the original single-level PWAD sources used to create those compilation PWADs made between 1994 to 1996 (and maybe even 1997 & 1998), but I've mostly gave up trying to gather all the original sources, even with either the screenshots of each level on Wad-Archive or taking a screenshot of these levels in GZDoom on my laptop.

I wanted to make an extension to my forum post on identifying the screenshots of those PWADs featured on the front & back covers (and maybe on the disc covers as well) from those DOOM PWAD shovelware compilations, this time on solving the mystery of the original single-level PWAD sources of these compilation PWADs compiled between 1994 to 1996 (and maybe even 1997 & 1998) for Registered DOOM & The Ultimate DOOM, and maybe even a few for DOOM II.

I'm wondering & asking anybody here if your interested in making a DoomWiki page providing information on those old compilation PWADs released between 1994 to 1996 (and maybe even a few from 1997 to 1998) for Registered DOOM & The Ultimate DOOM, and even a few for DOOM II.

We already got a "List of Commercial Compilations" page for the DoomWiki, and we also have pages for Heroes.wad, Mr. Smiley Head Safari & the original PWAD sources used for the DWANGO Deathmatch Compilation PWADs on the DoomWiki as well.

All we need now is a "List of Compilation PWADs" page to not only provide the name of each compilation PWAD made for Registred DOOM & The Ultimate DOOM (and even a few for DOOM II) between 1994 to 1996 (maybe even 1997 & 1998), but also provide the original single-level PWAD sources used in those PWADs in general, as most of these compilation PWADs are not available on the idgames Archive for obvious copyright reasons, since some of them contain modified id Software levels. Examples include the WADPAK series, the NEWWAD series, the DOOMPL series, the EPI#BEST series, the RALPH series, among others.

The reason I've made this suggestion is because the original single-level PWAD sources are very hard to find, other than searching on old DOOM PWAD shovelware CD-ROM compilations as well using either Wad-Archive and/or the idgames archive.

If your interested in creating a DoomWiki entry on those old compilation PWADs created for Registered DOOM & The Ultimate DOOM (and maybe even a few for DOOM II), we could likely solve the mystery of the original single-level PWAD sources from these compilation PWADs.

I think Doomwiki have already 2 pages for heroes 1 and 2... But yes, i think is a good idea.

https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Heroes

https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Heroes_2

The real question is: how many of them are around the web? I know only that there's Heroes 1 and 2, Aliens_X, Star Wars Doom (maybe), the WADPAK series (that i wrote short reviews of them long ago), megawad (not on idgames), Doom 32,Mr smiley safari head  and a few more that aren't archived anywhere (they are from the shovelware CD Boom 3 disk).

Most of those compilation episode PWADs for Registered DOOM & Ultimate DOOM like EP4B & EP5A are only available on shovelware compilation PWAD CDs like D!ZONE & Maximum DOOM, with some even being converted for DOOM II & Heretic (and in rare cases Hexen) for some odd reason.

If you can find which ones aren't on the idgames Archive for obvious copyright reasons, head to the Internet Archive's DOOM Level CDs collection or 3D Shooter Legends to find these compilation episode PWADs.

Maybe you know this, but just in case: many Maximum Doom sources are collected here.
