Inverse of the tall building trick?

Question

Does vanilla have an inverse of the tall building trick with buildings that are shorter than the rest of the skyline instead of taller? I thought I could get clever by just using the tall building trick on everything except for the building I wanted to be short, but to no avail.

Assuming I understand what you mean, the answer is technically yes: just have a lower sky sector surrounding the building that you want to be shorter, with no upper textures on the outside.

The problem is that certain viewing angles can spoil the illusion very easily.  If there's a place where the player ought to be able to see "over" the lower building to something behind, there will of course just be a solid chunk of sky there instead.  Whether or not this is actually a problem for you depends on the exact way you're using it.
