Design wise, maybe.
If they didnt spawn lost souls they would be more likeable.

unpopular opinion but i think the doom 3 cacodemon is very good for the same reasons as the og cacodemon, ie being cute and cool and funny. the way it kind of bobs through the air, lazily taking shots at you feels very appropriate for the cacodemon
