DBP02: Circle of Caina

Map01 Pacifist in 0:26.63 - dbp0201p026.zip

I have mixed feelings when it comes to running my own maps, but @BiZ reminded me of this map from a video today, and I remember it had a bit of back-and-forth on it (I don't usually want to table-fill my own maps).

My run, though, uses the cool~ route (pun extremely intended)

Edited by NoisyVelvet : apparently the dsda link was to the download of dbp02, not the main dsda page, woops

Map 01 Pacifist in 1:17.26

dbp3701p117.zip

Didn't break the second barrier which sucks, but it's getting late and I felt if a record exists it should be on the archive. I'll definitely throw some more attempts at it to see if I can get a 1:16.

Edit: with rc2 version of dbp47 this demo is in sync and gets all kills and all secrets.

@Ravendesk I guess FYI, there's a loose "DBP Bugfixing Central" that catalogues some known DBP bugs, maintained by @matador (he can weigh in if he wants, but don't want to force him).  A version called "RC2 but with additional plus fixes" is floating around somewhere.  Though, even then I'm not sure if the Doomworld thread has RC1 or base RC2...  Oh well.

I did something similar for DBP45 - Vrack Botanicals and just ran what felt fun at the time (ironically on the one map with a known softlock).  I guess that worked out.  Not sure if there's a final "idgames ready" type version expected for some of these later DBPs, or rather if the bugfix project is just an ever cumulative, rolling process.

Thanks for the Map04 demo.

Thanks for the Map04 demo.

Thanks for the info. Well, if somehow "official" version is updated and my runs are invalidated, I don't mind.

Map 04 was a lot of fun to run :)

Also since I'm replying anyway, I'll upload this as well.

I guess I should elaborate a bit on the bugfixing thread. It's there for mappers who want to fix bugs in their maps and ideally it will lead to a fixed version if everyone gets their bugfixes in but it's a bit of a cat herding process at times as sometimes mappers aren't around to fix things after release and production of the next DBP can take away some time from the bugfixing, so there's no guarantee a bugfixed version will actually see the light of day. With that said, DBPs 46 & 47 should be about ready to go and I'll probably post up the finished versions of those in the next couple of days. Regarding DBP47, the OP has the RC1 release right now.

@Ravendesk, your demos should be mostly fine - the only two that had fixes applied were Map 01 (the secret issue you mentioned) and Map 05 (some co-op bugs). Actually, I'd like to add in some demos for DBP47, so would you mind if I used some of yours in the RC2 release?

Also, @NoisyVelvet, I don't have that softlock you mention in DBP45 on the bug list, what is it?

Hey, thanks for the info.

Regarding the demos - sure, please use any you like.

I have also checked all my DBP47 demos after it was updated with RC2 (this version is currently in idgames "incoming"), and only Map 05 UV-MAX desynced. Map 01 UV-MAX is in sync and now gets all kills and secrets.

I have edited my posts to mention these changes.

Oh no...  Between RC2 and Idgames version in DBP50 Map08, the

Archvile underground pawn shop is now broken for all keys but the Yellow Archie one...

I might need to make an emergency secret meeting with @lunchlunch because I kinda liked that secret...

Ok, top secret stealth edit for Map08 hit idgames affecting two linedefs.  Other demos are fine.  Unfortunately, it desyncs @Meowgi's and my Map08 demo.

(Also pinging @lunchlunch @4shockblast if relevant.)

I also learned that Edge browser caches your FILE downloads and stores them... somewhere.  So I was confused why New York mirror was giving me the old version despite explicitly and manually "Downloading" in a deliberate, user-clicked fashion over and over again.  You'd think that implies I want to download fresh from the link again, right?  But Edge is clearly smarter than me, cares about my time and data rates, and I shouldn't question it.  I was about to accuse the mirror of lagging behind the others in versions, but figured out what was going on.  Really fun piece of trivia... HAH... HA... HAH...      :)
