@kraflab@fabian and any other prboom forks might want to look into this:

When you have a bug fix like this, it would be great to open a PR in pr+ directly so that all the forks can inherit it.

I've made a PR.

Edit: It has been successfully merged into PRBoom+ and DSDA-Doom.

EditEdit: I've uploaded a new version including kraflab's dope new crosshairs (amongst other changes).

Very minor release today that will be nice for those that want to playback demos while reducing motion sickness.

Not a super big update today, just adding an option to fix a minor issue I ran into while viewing and testing demo files. View bob settings are often ignored in demo playback depending on the type of demo file. You can now force disable view bob for demo playback if you so desire.

Changelog:

  • Added the option to force disable view bob for demo playback.

To the madmen that like playing at 200/240p and 16:9, I've finally fixed* it to something more presentable.

New [426x200] (very nice and crispy)

doom93.png.861fac8a381cb67d13c92ccf98540d9f.png

Old [426x240] (notice how melty the text and various graphics are)

doom00.png.21ad7e2b5b9b8616202fac1c92e5a767.png

Changelog:

  • Replaced the 426x240 resolution with 426x200
  • Hotfix: 854x400 has been replaced with 852x200 to line up with 426x200 better

*Note: 426x200 which correctly stretches to 426x240 is in fact not 16:9. It's 1.775:1 which is very close. Due to this, forcing 16:9 in the options will break it. Please set aspect ratio to auto.

Download the latest release

A hot fix has been added to bring 16:9ish 400p in line with 16:9ish 200p.

Definitely more jagged for sure, I may be one of these madmen to play at this resolution,  will check it out.  Is this essentially 320x200 but widescreen more or less?

Yep. Same vertical resolution, but far larger horizontal resolution. You can see the other resolutions added in this post.

854x400 May be more suiting since I typically use Crispy doom,  Been interested is DSDA lately and found your fork of it,  Nice work with the resolutions.

Yeah, personally the 200 resolutions are more of a novelty than anything else; I prefer 400 myself as it adds just enough clarity while also still feeling retro. The 200 options are the best for playing the latter parts of eviternity at 60+ fps in software mode though!

Nice, congrats on the new release. Maybe I'll migrate from dsda-doom to this port, has rather cool features

Congrats on the new release! ^^

I should mention though that I made a fork of FDWL where I fixed the 426x200 by setting the aspect ratio to 71:40. I also fixed 854x400 but I changed it to 852x400 and gave it the 71:40 aspect ratio too. I did this because widescreen hud graphics that were 426 pixels wide didn't fit the screen entirely with 854, you could still see a few pixels of GRNROCK at the sides.

This is a silly question but where in the options do I enable 486 426x200? The resolution option isn't showing it (do I have to set it manually within the config?)

Am I blind and missed something?

That's a good point. Due to 16:9 240p and 480p involving not only fractions, but also fractions that round to odd numbers, it gets weird when figuring out which arbitrary numbers to pick for horizontal resolution. I'm going to take a second look at the unity doom widescreen assets to see what they went with, but if 426 ends up being used at 200p, 852 does make more sense at 400p.

Edit: The Unity Ports targeted 426x200 so looks like 852x400 will be the new 480p option. Thanks for bringing that inconsistency to my attention!

There is now a hotfix out to bring 400p in line with 200p.

Options -> General -> Screen Resolution

They should be towards the left side of resolution options. Also, it's 426x200 not 486.

So I was blind. Thought that those resolutions would be after 320x200, not before. Thanks anyways.

With some of the new features in this port, I might actually use this over DSDA. Great work!

Edit: Those resolutions are after 320x200. I really am blind huh

Last night I made and uploaded a short video detailing the various features of FDWL. I'm new to the whole video editing and voice recording thing, so please go easy on me.

hi, is there a way to disable the automatic playback of demos at startup?

Other than warping straight to a map, no. But demos won't play unless you idle on startup without doing anything. Merely pressing escape when the game loads to make the menu appear will stop them from playing.

You could put a config switch around the breaks that load the demos after certain tics.  Funnily enough I did the same thing (except I removed them entirely) from Sprinkled.

Not many source ports do it though, I think ZDoom/GZDoom (only ZDoom Demos) and Doom Retro are the others.

well they don't really have a choice, since vanilla demos won't play correctly :)

generally I really like games sporting an "attract mode" like in the arcades back in the day

I find it fair that prboom and derivatives would proudly display their vanilla-compatibility by playing a wad's builtin demos

when autoloading a pwad like blackops or smoothed, however, seeing the playback desyncing is not ideal

It's not a big issue though.. I'll keep hitting ESC :)

keep up the good work!

You can load a PWAD with empty DEMO1 through DEMO4 lumps. See Sunlust as an example.

hi Charlie

I've noticed that dsda has been updated a couple of times since the latest fdwl release.. both updates however are considered experimental by kraflab so I would guess that fdwl will be updated only when there will be a new stable upstream release

is that so?

Yeah, I've been following it closely, but I'm waiting until things get a bit more stable before bringing things in.
