I can't speak about the impact Terry had on the Skulltag community, but I do remember this Youtube account being fairly active in their heyday. Seems to be abandoned nowdays.

Yeah, from my understanding, "Terry" was simply a pseudonym for a particular mischievous group of ancient Doom community shitposters who started the trend of making TerryWADs, rather than an actual individual whose name was Terry. In essence, it was a WAD-making genre where a bored, unfunny dickhead could assume the character of Terry, the world's worst Doom mapper with the intent to annoy Doomers for their own amusement.

I'm familiar with the picture, I wasn't referring to that specifically :P

 

It's just that I've seen a few people confuse Carnevil with Terry since his face appears in a lot of Terry WADS. I thought maybe OP was confused about something like that too. There is still a lot of confusion involving Terry WADS since they aren't discussed too often.

Terrywads are romanticized shitposting. There was a lot of crossover with YTP, except terrywads were less mindless demented fun and more malignant shock ambush. It's like fondly remembering how someone told you to eat a tide pod or inject yourself with ivermectin, and how you had to be hospitalized afterwards. Ex-terrywadders will often claim that it was just harmless fun, but they never explain where the fun actually was. Was it the rape jokes? Loud ear assault? Zip bombs? Doxxing and harassing idgames admins?

 

On the dark side (the above was the fun & games part), the terrywad scene also had a significant crossover with kiwifarms and 8chan, which somewhat explains the weird fixation on their designated "lolcows". By which they meant Carnevil, Ralphis and others for simply existing as staples in the MP community, and idgames admins for denying them to spread their worthless shit.

 

Whenever someone tries to tell you terrywads were just harmless fun, chokehold them into submission and ignore the tapping on the mat.

I was just thinking there had to be an original. Terry isn't exactly as 'badass' name as something like Cyberdemon2000

Ruba is the closest thing I can remember to an "original Terry". Before terrywads were a thing you had Ruba wads. 

 

They were also often reviewed on the newstuff back then. 

Whenever it was full of reviews of Ruba wads you knew it was a meager month. 

 

He even received a mockaward for it, when it was still used.
