Absurdly well known videogame trivia

During development of Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby was a dummy character that was used until the developers of the game came up with a more sophisticated image of the character. At that time, he would've been named Popopo and the game would have been called Twinkle Popo.

Eventually, the developers grew fond of the dummy character and scrapped the name Popopo. Kirby, it was.

Going to mention one from my favorite game, because why not? Mega Man X1 has a secret Hadouken upgrade that allows you to one shot almost every boss in the game. You even activate it by performing the Hadouken motion!

Megaman X2 has the shoryuken ability and, yup, you need to do the exact command to use it.

Same franchise, in MMX5 (NA version), all 8 bosses has names related to the members of Guns & Roses.

As iconic as Aeris' death in FF7 was, it certainly wasn't the first one in the series. Other notable deaths before that include Josef (FF2, first ACTUAL playable character death in the franchise), Tellah (FF4, used Meteo in an attempt to defeat Golbez), Galuf (FF5, gave it his all even when at 0 HP and they actually tried to revive him but couldn't), and Leo (FF6, players can play as him one time vs. Kefka but the latter still kills him).

A lot of games use the Konami Code.

Megaman is named "Rockman" in Japan, and there's a boss called "Cutman", Rockman beats Cutman, like a rock beating scissors.

Both Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem 3D's names have a small joke, in that they're the third games in their series. A bit iffy for Wolfenstein, but definitely true for Duke.

In Banjo-Kazooie, Mumbo's "eekum bokum" talk is just random syllables lifted from composer Grant Kirkhope saying the phrase "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough".

Fire Emblem Awakening was going to be the last Fire Emblem game but it accidentally sold like 50 trillion copies because it was a banger. It then proceeded to not be the last Fire Emblem game.

A benevolent dragon in Skyrim known as Paarthurnax is voiced by Charles Martinet. He also voices Mario.

Grand Theft Auto 1 was originally planned to be a racing game. But a glitch in one of the early version caused police cars to try and shove your car off the road. They liked it very much and reworked the game.

Another good FE one: Roy was featured in Smash Melee before his game even came out, as a publicity stunt. He, alongside Marth, wasn't even supposed to appear in the international versions originally, but they decided to let them in. Players liked them so much the next FE game was the first to be localized in the west.

SNES had 3 games that has a different color than the usual gray one. Doom is one of them with that crimson cartridge (Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage also have a red color).

The other one is Killer Instinct, which was black.

Duck Hunt for the NES does not work on modern LCD TVs. There is too much of a delay between the screen flash and how the gun registers a hit. Still works with your classic tube TVs though.

The European and Japanese SNES models have a slight slope so you can't place drinks on them.

Is that really the reason? I never would have guessed that, though putting drinks on your console is pretty much begging to kill it when you inevitably do a careless move and spill it!
