Guess the map [4th edition] (ANSWERS REVEALED, THANKS FOR PLAYING!)

The idea is simple, you see screenshots of map layouts and you're free to guess as many maps as you can. Each will belong to a different wad to make things varied and interesting. This will follow a difficulty progression as with the 3rd edition:

 

Easy: These will include maps that are from IWADs or very popular levels from very popular PWADs that are Top 100/cacoward winners
Medium: These will include PWAD levels that are usually popular, as in they are Top 100 WADs of all time/cacoward winners or runners-up

Hard: These will include PWAD levels that are less popular than the showstealers in Top 100/cacoward winners, as well as memorable levels from lesser known PWADs
Expert: PWAD levels that are much lesser known and usually not from famous cacoward winners/Top 100 wads, though there may be some that were from winners/runners up but are generally not well-remembered levels.
Master: More obscure than the Expert category but follows the same criteria. Soon we'll see even more obscure PWADs in this category.

Like before, the screenshots will be accompanied by a hint for each one. New hints will be delivered for all maps on the 2nd of October. The correct answers will be given on the 9th of October. So in other words these threads will be a bi-weekly guessing game. You may now guess away!

 

===EASY TIER===

-A famous BFG slaughterfest level near the end of a famous mapset.

-I find it interesting all those outside red stalagmites are copypasted

-An absolutely beautiful cave level with few safe zones.

-Complete with candles

 

05.

-I didn't actually include the starting point to this level which is a dark void, but that place is instrumental for a certain exit and some supplies.

-The middle part has interesting portals.

 

===MEDIUM TIER===

 

06.

-Few enemies, but still one of the confusing levels ever made.

-At one point, to beat the level, you have to touch a withered tree at the NE part of the map.

 

07.

-New York!

-Rockets usually rain down from the tallest building.

-If you remember 08 from the last edition well this one inspired much of its design.

-There's a number of teleport closets at the easternmost end that I cut out here.

-One of the winners for one of Joel's mapping contests.

-The bottom area is the hub and the places north of there have the keys.

-A penultimate map with an intricate layout.

-I didn't know this was a Freedoom map as well.

 

===HARD TIER===

-You've explored this level's layout multiple times before in this megawad when it had no enemies and a mission statement...

-The main enemy here can only be defeated with a specific kind of weapon.

-Nestled in the middle of a short-but-hard megawad, this is probably the biggest level in the wad.

-Maybe it is the second biggest, after I looked at MAP29 of the same wad.

 

13.

-One of the larger maps to be in both the memorable maps and the top 100 WADs.

-Single level

 

14.

-It's a crane!

-Middle part is a submerged warehouse

 

15.

-Lots of purple, lots of imps

-It's nestled in the last third of the mapset.

 

===EXPERT TIER===

-The field that encompasses 2/3 of the map is of course where the majority of combat is.

-And you revisit that part later on.

-Not for Doom and not for Heretic.

-The author of this wad has a custom title that tells you the game it is for (but it's not an IWAD level fyi)

-One wrong move and arch-viles come in.

-If you ever look for dead marines, you'll know where NOT to go here.

-OMG a tornado!

-It's a single level, but it's a sequel to a previous level that the author made.

-The predominant color is green.

-Flashing green, lots of slaughter

 

===MASTER TIER===

-A city map by a very prolific author, one of his sleeper hits.

-Lots of attention to detail for the city itself

-From a 2021 WAD combining exploration and lots of flying fireballs.

-It's not a BTSX map but it kind of feels like it should be.

-A big crater that ends a Heretic set.

-The two secrets in this map are in the middle circle

-Yes, those are boats.

-And the boats are your safe zones as you cross the treacherous rivers in this really long level.

-A mega level in a mega project. It's mega huge!

-Not actually from DUMP, but from a different kind of "mega project".
