Hello Doomers, my name is xdude_gamer and this is my attempt at reviving the GothicDM-style maps that put Anthony Czerwonka and his team of mapmakers and composers on the map as some of the finest and most detailed Doomers out there. Despite the flak that GothicDM and Gothic99 get, I think it is about time for a revival of the style, and to add more detail. Why? GothicDM was a project made in 1997, at the height of Doom's early modding scene. Anthony Czerwonka, Mattrim Dixon, and several others all collectively made THE most detailed maps of the 1990s. Before Ancient Aliens and all those other crazy WADs, there was Gothic. Gothic99, on the other hand, received a lot of negative reviews for its ridiculous detail and tight spaces that made rockets an instant way of suicide. EIGHTEEN BILLION SECTORS OF WORK put to waste. From there, Gothic died. Since 2002, the GothicDM series has been officially defunct. I am here to revive it. I personally enjoyed the Gothic series for everything it was worth. We still deathmatch on GothicDM, sometimes even on Gothic99. So let's give them a new sight for their eyes. Map Slots: Spoiler MAP01: @The_SloVinator (done) MAP02: @dach (done mostly) MAP03: @ProYT (done) MAP04: @Zion (done) MAP05: @Captain Toenail (done mostly) MAP06: @The_SloVinator (done) MAP07: @The_SloVinator (done) MAP08: @Mr.Rocket (in progress) MAP31:@DoctorNuriel (in progress) Music Slots: Spoiler Every map except the ones below: idk yetMAP10: @BriøcheINTERMISSION: @brightentayle TITLE: Me Rules: Spoiler 1. Levels have to be UDMF format with some kind of use of GothicTX textures. 2. Has to look and play like a map out of GothicDM (not too cramped, though. that shit sucks!) 3. Custom textures are allowed, but nothing too greatly-excessive. Signatures are allowed. 4. Be sure to complete your map before the deadline. If you don't, you will have a week to complete the map before your slot is replaced. 5. Don't judge others' submissions until playtesting. 6. Final rule. Your level has to take less than 30 seconds to circlestrafe through, otherwise it is a bit too big. As you remember, Gothic did not have very massive maps. How to secure a level/music slot: Spoiler 1. Ask for a music slot or a level slot. 2. Make a level and submit it. 3. Make music and submit it. Doomkid Posted September 27, 2021 Cool idea! There have been many "gothic in spirit" maps since then, but I'm not positive if there's any gothic through-and-through DM wads that are much fun made since. (Probably, I just don't know of them). Anyway, I hope to see this picking up traction, and if you'd like to hook some more mappers, maybe try starting threads on the Zand, ZDaemon and Odamex forums as well? (sorry! amateur mapper here.) i mean technically you could put both in the same wad, it's just that if it was in a maplist along with each other, and a Non GZDoom player went through them, he'd be able to play the boom maps then crash at the udmf maps. 2 Share this post Link to post

It'd be fun to make Boom and UDMF maps in a seperate wad, but that'd be a bit of a waste of time if you could just make UDMF maps for all GZDoom and Zandronum guys to enjoy. 0 Share this post Link to post

Gothic is known for looking good, not playing good, and gothic99 just exemplifies that.
