@Doomlover77

If you have a Mac I suggest you to try The Unarchiver.The Mac default utility does not always recognize certain zip files, especially if they are very old.

Sometimes I still use the good old pkunzip with dosbox: I think it's still a very good utility on certain occasions.

The WAD dir is corrupted enough for SLADE to refuse to load it. E1M7 can be played in Crispy, with severe noclipping issues - missing/bad BLOCKMAP? The level looks like a half-unraveled ball of twine in the automap.

E2M1 = BDMWAD!.WAD E1M1
E2M2 = BDMWAD!.WAD E1M2
E2M3 = BDMWAD!.WAD E1M3
E2M4 = BDMWAD!.WAD E1M4
E2M5 = BDMWAD!.WAD E1M5
E2M6 = BDMWAD!.WAD E1M6
E2M7 = BDMWAD!.WAD E1M7
E2M8 = BAST.WAD

BDMWAD! is itself a compilation of stock id maps, released in early April 1994 by Brent Metz:

E1M1 = stock E2M1 (edit)

E1M2 = stock E2M4

E1M3 = stock E3M1

E1M4 = stock E2M2

E1M5 = stock E3M3

E1M6 = stock E1M1

E1M7 = stock E3M5

E1M8 = stock E3M8 (edit)

E1M9 = stock E2M8 (edit)

This WAD was meant to compile the best DM levels from DOOM.WAD. The maps were to be played consecutively. The compiler apparently wasn't too assiduous with testing since his edits make skipping two levels unavoidable in continuous play.

E1M1 - the only change is changing the exit switch to a secret exit. Since exiting the secret level takes you to E1M4 you miss E1M2 and E1M3.

E1M8 - the only change is replacing the Caco in southwest with a Cyber.

E1M9 - numerous THINGS changed: rockets replaced with Invisos; lots of rockets and Medkits added to the outside. Exit switch sloppily added to one of the columns outside. Rocket launcher removed, chainsaw added elsewhere. With no rocket launcher to carry over from E1M1 that was a dumb thing to do.

POOL.WAD (04/29/1995) By Jon Landis

POOL.WAD (full title: EYE OF THE BEHOLDER Map 02: The Pool) is a sort of preview of Eye Of The Beholder II. Here are collected the first two maps:

Map01 =  Blocks, with an alternate skybox, identical to ENTRY.WAD (See below)
Map02 = The Pool, with an alternate skybox

Contrary to the sneak preview of the first Eye Of The Beholder, there are not unreleased or exclusive maps in this release and the levels are the same of the full version : the only difference is that both maps have a different skybox.

Landis previously released Blocks as standalone wad, Entry.wad (timestamp 04/17/1995).
In that release the map is still called Entryway (full title: Eye Of The Beholder II: Entryway) but the level is the same (included the alternate skybox).

Amazing thread.  I was thinking about finding all old maps, but someone passed me in this haha.

However, I have an idea of the Encyclopedia of 94-96 maps. All maps will be in separate folders, including additional textfile about author, stats, but also about what compilations has a map appeared in as well as an image of the map.

Here's a more recent PK3 compilation knows as "20in1mapsv1.1.PK3". Here's the MegaWADs included minus the official Doom IWADs.

Sigil

Scythe

1 Monster

Mini-Level Megawad

Maps of Chaos (Doom 1 & 2 harder version)

Going Down

Plutonia Revisited

Kama Sutra

Hell Revealed

Alien Vendetta

Plutonia 2

Hell Revealed 2

Sunlust

There got that compilation PK3 out of the way.

So, i was editing the Compilation WAD page on Doom Wiki and i was thinking what other notable compilations do you know over the one listed in there?

I was thinking to add New Doom and DCDWANGO in the list, but I'm not completely sure...

Map04 is a combination of HOTDEATH.wad Map07 and 666EPIS.wad E3M6 and E3M7. Basically a "Frankenmap".

I have found that MAP04 of dmd2die also has an area which seems to be taken from E2M6 of Eternity. The wooden room with a switch that opens to the red door on one side and to an outdoors corridor on the other.

And the metal structure with the Evil Eye that appears in the small room to the right of the area where the yellow key is, appears in E2M1 of Eternity, behind the red door, right before the end.

Also, @Endless should add this thread to the first page of the Doom Wadarcheology thread, mainly for the large number of single-level PWAD sources.

@Wadmodder Shalton I’ve had a look at flamelev this morning. Map 3 is unknown but map 7 is Sqring01.wad.

Now Here’s a compilation for Heretic called Smallh.wad from February 1995 which can be found on Arcade explosion as downloaded here :-

https://archive.org/download/cdrom-arcade-explosion/ae.mdf

It will need to be converted from mdf to bin using the following website before you can use it. Beware, there are Tai-Pan 666 viruses on the bin file so be careful !

https://www.file-extension.info/conversion/mdf-to-bin

e1m1 - Dm1deth m2 variant

e1m2 - Dm1deth m4 (frag_you)

e1m3 - Dm1deth m7

e1m4 - unknown, looks familiar.

e1m5 - e1l1kp by Karl Peters

e1m6 - unknown

e1m7 - Pillar by Andy Pederson variant

E1m8 - Heretic E1m1 variant

SMALLH.WAD

E1M4 = CORR2 (also MAP06 of DM2PAK#1 in Maximum Doom)
[...]
E1M6 = COMBAT E1M1

"variant" is the wrong term in this context. Its use as a noun in Russian may be synonymous with "version" in some contexts, but in English the noun "variant" is not common outside certain disciplines (like biology). The word you want is "edit".

This is the full collection of the EPISODXX.WAD series.

@Never_Again is (or was) looking for these wads  and I hope they are the right files.

The nice launcher, included in the package, requires Dosbox.

Please note:

EPISOD06.WAD is different from EP6.WAD, and EPISOD11.WAD is different from EP11.WAD.

If I remember correctly these are the only differences I noticed between the EPISODXX.WAD series and the EPX.WAD series

Enjoy!

Royals Fragmantation

A 30 levels wad for Doom 2 by Phantom & Traxx.

The wad comes with new sounds, new graphics and a new Titlepic.

Some maps are Deathmatch only ( with  the exit but no monsters), and there are some edited versions of Doom maps and other pwads.

This is a repackaged, ready-to-play and cleaned up release.
