PUSS XIII: TH1RT3EN (BETA v3; PLAYTESTING)

Thought I'd give this a go as I like making hell maps.

 

Map Name: THE CRIMSON FORTRESS OF PAIN
Author: finnks13

Music: 'Galaxy' by Mark Klem (from Momento Mori)

Sky: RSKY4 from Ultimate Doom (it's currently occupying RSKY1 in this wad as it's on E1M1, but I'm happy to add in a sky transfer if that'd be better)

Format: Boom

Difficulty Settings: No (can add some if you'd like, after feedback)

Build Time: Just under 3 hours
Gimmicks: 13 Lost Souls, 3 Crushers, 3 Barons, All 3 Keys,  3 Ammo Pickups, 1 Telefragging Teleporter

 

Comments: A red hell keep with some fireblu, flesh and metal dotted around for good measure. Contains 3 boxes of rockets at the start of the map and no other ammo (except the few bullets and shotguns you can get from the zombies), should require a lot of berserk punching demons. Also features a death trap where you can crush 32 pinkies if you want.

Map Name: Cocytus/The Ninth Circle [might update the name]

Author: Peccatum Mihzamiz

Music: Eclectic Death by Peccatum Mihzamiz (from the Ultimate MIDI Pack)

Sky: no sky

Difficulty Settings: no (will update)

Format: Boom (Doom I)

Build Time: 3 hours I think (Went over time with this map. So I scratched it and redid it much simpler, and think I made it)

Gimmicks: 13 Lost Souls, 3 shootable Evil Eyes, telefragging a Cyberdemon

Known issues: some ports show a HOM on the central pillar. The switch doesn't work properly in some ports (but still opens a door).

Comments: Will update all this info asap. Just wanted to hand in this map now.

Difficulty Settings: No (will add later as this is bit challenging)
Build Time: 3 hours with some tiny breaks
Gimmicks: 3 textures and flats, 3 Evil Eyes, 13 barrels, 13 lost souls
Comments: Went full Man with the Gun here and tested how much detail I can exactly push out in 3 hours.. Hectic and chaotic map with lots of small guys to shoot.

Playtesting, Round 3 (I think we're caught up now.) 1 slot left in the main wad, and we're working on secret maps atm. Now that we've got through this, I'm working on rearranging according to theme/ difficulty. Once we get all the slots placed, I may be hitting you up to see about adding a secret exit, if you fall into one of those slots. If we do manage to go over the wad limit in the next 4 days, I'll arrange a 5th episode.

Format: Doom I Boom, tested with DSDA 19.0.

Difficulty Settings: Yes, including co-op

Build Time: 3 hours plus fixing

Gimmicks: 3 Barons, 13 Barrels, 13 secrets

Comments: 2nd map for this project. I actually started this map over completely, after having gone way over the time limit in a previous iteration.

Known Issues: 1 slime trail that I've tried my best to remove but won't just go away.

We have about 12 hours-ish left for submissions. We almost have enough for a full 5 episodes! I'll post a list by author tomorrow once all is said and done, and I'll begin finishing and compiling everything for playtesting. I'm modifying the dates to provide adequate time for our playtesters, as well as for myself as I finish up this semester.

Submissions are closed, and I'm recording the remaining maps. Once I attempt to fix the animating issue, and update the maps, we should be good for compiled playtesting. Amazing work, everyone! I'll have an updated list of maps shortly, as well.

Alright. Get ready for pain.

Th1rt3en Beta Build 1 (11/30/21)

- I HOPE I got all of the maps and their current updates. If MIDIs or skies don't match, please let me know and I will correct them. If you notice anything going on with your map that's on my end, please let me know. This was a LOT and I'm sorry in advance if I missed something.
- The switch animation is currently still an issue.
- I used UMAPINFO to dictate the level definitions and properties. Use a non-supporting port at your own risk for now. I'm likely to have more optimization ahead of me. 
- 4 secret levels and the credits map are missing, as they are yet unfinished.
- This is NOT the final map order.

Updated the Beta release post above with some other known issues. Look out for that. Some are hardcoding and port issues, so I'm working through those.

ALSO: Beta Build 2 has been updated with a few map updates and minor fixes.

Funny how the dark parts are so completely different levels of dark for different people. On DavidN's video they're quite bright. On yours they're almost pitch black.:O

I was probably playing with gamma correction 0 at that point. I actually increased it in some level that was even darker. After that everything is brighter :D

Hey, everyone! Thanks again for your patience! There will be a major update very shortly...still working through some technical stuff, but it's coming along. I also have all secret maps accounted for. I have one map that will need updating to accommodate for a secret exit, and a credits map (which I'm in the processing of creating). Just wanted to update you. Keep an eye out!

Version 3 is available. It currently requires MAPINFO/ UMAPINFO ports to run properly with all skies, MIDIS, and secret exits. I've tested it in a few different ports (GZDOOM, ZDOOM, PRBOOM+um). Other than any fixing, there's a few things left to do, here. BluePineapple72's map needs a secret exit, and in order for everything to run in BOOM without the hardcoded MIDIs for EPI4, I will be splitting it into two wads. In this current version, that is why the secret exits for EPI4 and 5 are in different slots, defined by MAPINFO. I'll be working on the Split version over the next few days. There's still a known issue with some of the switches not animating properly...I'll also be working on that. Any playtesting would be very helpful!

A special thanks to DavidN for helping me test this out using RAMPART, so I can learn the in's and out's to use in future projects.
