The Old Bean Factory

Recommended Posts

Stumbled on this randomly through idgames. Took me awhile to beat it. Flat out loved this map.

Only issue was I had to noclip through a tree blocking my way right near that yellow key room, but that's prolly my mods affecting.

Anyway, 5/5 star experience for me, and you sir are a mod author to look out for.

Thank you for checking it out!
Yeah, it sounds like a mod conflict because I didn't plant any tree things, perhaps a mod of yours overwrote a dehacked decoration.
Regardless, I'm very happy you enjoyed it, thanks for saying such nice things.

Good map, nice doomcute.

Spoiler

I asked myself why are there more items than enemies on this map until i've found the shooting range section. Really cool secret.

Played on DSDA-Doom, HMP difficulty.

I think it should be illegal for maps like this to be this good. Not even good actually, this is AMAZING shit right here.

Saw the Dean himself give this map a quick review on his most recent (at time of this post anyway, hahaha) "Sawed-Off WADs #2" video - after seeing it briefly in action, I knew that I had to give it a go! Dunno how I missed this one during my regular forum browsing, haha.

I primarily associate you with texture posting and being a regular in the editing section of the forums, so I was surprised to hear that this was your second published map!

The Old Bean Factory was awesome - I really dug the build-esque style of the map with quasi-realistic environments, ample use of Doomcute (always a massive plus in my books) and really creative secrets (thoughts on those in the spoiler).

Spoiler

The Seinfeld easter egg of Jerry's apartment being my favourite with the gun shop / firing range being a close second! :)

Solid 30mins of dooming action, my only real "complaint" would be that it was a touch too easy, but then again not every map needs to be a ball-buster and I get the feeling this wasn't supposed to be a difficult slog!

Really keen to see more of your mapping efforts in the future, if TOBF is any indication your brand of mapping will be right up my alley - time to go play Cuneiform Crunch now!

I also found this through the latest Dean of Doom ep, and broke my Doom hiatus to try it out. Super fun level! Like the post above me, I like the Build engine-like level design and all the Doomcute. Those type of levels are some of my favorites, and this one is one of the better one I've seen in recent memory. It truly felt like an abandoned city block. I also liked the secrets as well, tho I think the dean spoiled the harder secret to find and gave a hint to an easy one, lol. The map was pretty easy, with the only fight that can cause problems being the one waiting for the subway bars to lower, but if you have the secret BFG it should be a breeze. But hey, sometimes you just want a fun level to blaze through!

Finished it yesterday. Great map, not hard but one of my favorite maps I've played this year (and I played a lot of megawads this year).

Gonna keep an eye on whatever you decide to do next.

That was really cool map, don't normally spend much effort finding secrets but it was obviously the main draw of this map and I loved it. Sometimes I like being challenged but sometimes it's fun just explore so the lower difficulty was fine for me. Still managed to die a couple of times in the mall! Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Apologies for the boop on this old post, but I just had to boop. I had an amazing time playing, which is hopefully evident in the video. Really hope more stuff of this ilk is forthcoming! If not, I'll be happy to just replay this and Slime City and count myself lucky. Brilliant. That Pulp Fiction / The Simpsons style prepper arsenal with shooting range basement was really satisfying to access once I'd worked out the payphone puzzle. 10 beans out of 10.
